A trackbike in the making
« on: February 17, 2010, 06:27:42 PM »

ZX10R 06 D6H model

the bike at the start of its strip down, damage isn't too bad, extras found so far, are the fork seals need doing, and the left hand side foot peg is broken.

broken steering damper bracket.

So thats all the pre-prep damage photographed.

Now the removal of the 1st thing when doing a "Ringer!" The number plate.

Bits required due to damage,

Rad. sorted.

Fairing bracket. sorted

Fork seals to be ordered.

Lefthand side footpeg.

front mudguard. On its way

Steering damper bracket,

Bits wanted, cos I do!!

Race fairing, used for the time being will do.

front wheel bearings and a spacer for my spare front wheel.

Brembo master cylinder, sat in my garage.

Other bits that i haven't thought of.

not as bad as it looks after a wire brushing to see how bad it was.

Standard zorsts, no problems with noise from this track bike.

Broken bits from the front removed.

Gunk around the bottom stantions causing concern about the seals.

some of the damage removed, now its in the blue plastics wheelie bin off for recycling.

the broken footpeg.

Well thats all for now.

Has to be ready for Anglesey at Easter,

We are done, thought i would post a "how you do it" post up, so others can benefit and do the same.

On a haynes manual rating i would give this 5/5 as its impossible on you own, even with the right tools :)

so to take us back to the start

Loosen the bottom bolt (may spin in which case you need a windy gun) luckily, these didnt

Undo the top, pour oil out, pump the damper rod to expell all oil, but be aware you, at some point need to expell all the air as well !

Pour out oil

Remove cartridge kit

Drain oil

Then, you will need "a special tool" to compress the spring and get the top of the cart off

Take the top off

And undo the nut, decompress the forks slowly !

Remove all the sh*t, plastic spacers, washers remove the spring. Pump the forks until all oil is removed (with the damping rod over a bucket)

Fill with oil, dont rely on putting x amount of oil in each fork leg, what you are after is an air gap (after bleeding) Pete Clifford said that 10w with a 100mm air gap is the way to go.

How do you measure air gap? This is an easy way :)

Rubber hose pipe on a ruler with a syringe at the end, pop the ruler in at the airgap you need, pull on the syrigine (Keeping it steady) till no more oil gets sucked up............There is your 100mm air gap :)

Reassemble the same way, jobs a good un

This is not a 1 person job :)
