arggghhhhhhh now you've reminded me of when I was younger blasting around country lanes in anglesey on a GPZ900 when I came around a bend to face a combine harvester, I stopped about 1 foot from a load of spikes on it as it was too wide to get around I just had to brake for my life

Hope your pal is going to be ok Gopher  :icon_thumright:

4 years ago, doing a night run, coming out of Henley (towards Sonning Common on country roads),when I came across two very large deer (not John Deers either!! [rofl]) with big f.off antlers. I was going a tad too quick to stop and they didn`t look like they were going to move.  I manged to go between them and stop just behind them with my heart rate seriously increased!!!! I looked around to see these two just look at me and calmly walk off into the woods!!!  :icon_puke_r:

2 incidents come to mind. First one was when I was doing about a ton down the motorway (in SA) when a car bonnett came off about 100 yards ahead of me and flew straight up into the air and I thought it was going to land on me. I don't think I could have hugged the tank any closer as it wooshed over me. I could feel the air turbulence on my back.

Second one that I still have nightmares about... Anyone else lifted a fat bird (FB) that was afraid to lean? Doing a favour for a mate who was into her very hot friend, taking FB on the back on a breakfast run. Motoring down a road that I did every day, tip into a bend and the bike just keeps going straight towards 2 lanes of opposite traffic. (Now I had already gave her a bollocking about 2 minutes before because she had done the same thing at the previous bend.) So I'm hanging off the inside ala Ruben Xaus to get the thing to turn, when FB remembers the bollocking and shifts her substantial mass (with surprising grace I might add) to the inside. The effect was similar to having a wrecking ball hit us from the side. To the guys behind us it must have looked like we cornered like one of those Tron bikes.

LOL! Awesome, loving the TRON story!  :-P

Mine was recently, I was on my usual commute to work on the a31 Hog's Back (awful and dangerous road), musing the slightly sludgey action of my front brake when I encountered a white pick up truck weaving from left to right maybe 3 or 4 feet.  Surely too early in the morning to be drinking?!  Anyway, before passing him in the outside lane of the D/C I studied his weaving for maybe 10 seconds, trying to predict his pattern before nailing it past him.  Left...right... just as he starts to go left again I wind it open in 3rd at maybe 60 mph - in the 1.5 seconds I'm gassing it I've maybe generated a closing speed of about 30 mph when he breaks his pattern and veers sharply right and leaves me no room at all! Much panic braking and I clearly remember the rear leaving the ground and the front beginning to slap, me using all my strength to try and keep my arms straight and the bars from flapping  - also required massive willpower to avoid the instinct to grab the rear of his truck and hold on to that instead of trying to ride the bike out of the situation.  I actually clipped the rear corner of the truck with the clutch lever, whilst still braking as hard as possible - I think if I'd have braked even one millisecond later I'd have smacked the back of it good and proper.

I was too shaken to even give him any grief about it and proceeded to ride like shit to work in a bit of a daze.  The only evidence of the impact was a little white paint I scraped off the ball thing on the end of the lever, very lucky. Oh and the brakes work fine!

mine last was in the car with DaveMFox following behind me after collecting his GSXR1K frokm London way, so it's sort of a bike thing as I don't know how Dave didn't hit me  [whistle]

Driving far too fast on a Dual carriageway when a car/caravan decided to overtake another as I was fast approaching, stamped the anchors on waiting for the impact, touched the dirt near armco and then he saw me and moved back in, completely my fault for driving too fast  [whistle]

Hang on, surely it must have been Dave's fault for 'making' me drive fast  [rofl] [rofl]

Believe me mate, my pulse rate went up a bit then, especially as I wasn't sure how good the brakes/tyre combo was  ;-) Yeah it was a bit close, but how can I make you go fast when I was following?  :icon_scratch:  [rofl] [rofl]
