Hi. New ZX10R Gen 1 Owner.. WOW WHAT A BIKE
« on: November 13, 2015, 06:17:16 PM »

Does this bike need a steering damper or does this bike need a steering damper ?   I love the way my front wheel hates the ground.   If Jesus could have had a motorbike then it would have been a ZX10R. (don't worry, I'm not a religious. I'm a non believer).

Thank you.

Should have introduced my self rather than the bike.  lol.  I live in Slough and have ridden all my life, between bans in my younger years.  haha.  I love acceleration and wheelies but as I'm ageing, I'm starting to lose my bottle a bit. Wrong time to get a 10R, you may say. Nah, it's mental and I love it.... oooops bike again.  I'm single so if there are any desperate lady bikers out there, I'm your wimp... I mean MAN. damn.  I'm an epos engineer, electronic point of sale, sounds flash but it just means I fix shop tills. Not so impressed now then, are you ?

Anyway, that's enough about me and now let's focus on what we're all here for. Bikes and ADRENALINE. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

My handlebars are so loose that I get a tank slapper at every opportunity (hard acceleration in low gears). I've checked for play in the bearings by lifting the front wheel on the side stand and checking movement in the front forks, pulling them forward and back but there isn't any. Can I tighten it up even though there's no play ?  I know I've got to invest in a steering damper but this steering is too loose to start with.

Could try tightening the headrace bearings a touch, if you go too tight the bike won't hold a straight line and you'll end up weaving about. If so just back them off a bit. But yeah, they need a steering damper! Any modern bike does, especially if you like wheelies. I've got an ohlins damper for sale, £160.
