GoPro is old tech now- all of the others use the same internals just with different software.
There's no way I would bother with a GoPro when to get decent sound you can't make it WP, you can't set it up without buying a separate screen, and you can't review it either.

Sounds like you have some issues with gopro hammy,if the bbc use them, then that ses it all,i've had a dvr3 system from dogcam and it was shite, sent back twice and they sent back other new ones...still shit! And whats wrong with gopro sound....nothing thats what.
Trouble with stuff with seperate screens is all the wires and taking ages to hide them all,all those people with gopro's can't be wrong.
Have you owned a gopro at all, sounds like you haven't [naughty]

I've owned 2 GoPros - the first was binned, the second sold on.
It's already been confirmed on here that the sound is poor, as I found out!
If you want it to be waterproof then the cover obstructs the mic - not a very clever design now is it?
I'm aware the BBC and others use them - 99% of that is down to bulk discounts - I know Ed and Mark at Dogcam personally and I know how many the BBC buy. They also deal with an awful lot of warranty issues from them.
The HD Max is what THEY (the importers) recommend if you want to be able to use it properly! Same internal architecture, better software, screen, external inputs, HDMI output, ALL the mounts, etc.
GoPro only have the rep they have as they were the first "all in one" that more or less worked.
Would I have another? NO - if I was given one - I'd sell it and go get another POV HD.

Also - having worked with a lot of production companies who throw them EVERYWHERE - most of the time in pairs just in case one of them stops recording, doesn't start recording or needs resetting.......

LOL @ Product loyalties!

Honestly there is very very little in the differences, we used GoPro, Drift HD170 and the Contour HD. I'm happy to use all three.  The only reason I got the Drift was price, I found it for a lot cheaper than the other two and its the same quality recording, has the full colour viewing screen, rotatable lens and external mic option so it won for me at the time  :icon_thumright:

I currently have a lend of a GoPro HD, a Drift 170 HD and a VIO POV HD.

For sheer quaility the POV blows the others out of the water, but they are an absolute bastard to mount and set up properly!  [wall]
