well as a person who on a daily basis has to deal with dogs have to say and u guys might not agree but......

its not dogs whats the problem its the owners.

I have seen many times small dogs like JRT or chihuahuas being more aggressive than large breeds. Of course injuries after rottweiler bite are more severe but the principal is the same: its all about the owner.
Im sick of healthy "pit bull type" dogs without behavioural isses being put down just because the are "pit bull type" and look like one and at the same time brainless owners of shithzu or chihuahuas breed them like crazy.
im my personal and professional owners should have licenses (as it is in Switzerland) and go through tests and chats to choose the dog which will suit their style of life and needs. For dogs and humans sake.
but its just my opinion

well its a very sad state when this happens again and again,,,,as a big dog owner for nealy 20 yrs now i have Newfoundlands, that are trained to do life guard water rescue , these dogs are naturely very soft, but that doesn`t mean it wont push you over, cus when a 12 st dogs wants to play you have to be very care full how you let it play... we even dont train our dogs to give a paw, cus if it does and it miss times it self you will end up with a face full of claws ,,not nice ill tell you, so thats why we dont...

you have to be soo carefull with a big dog on a load of thinks, stuff like our dogs are not food jelus , it can be eatting its diner and you could remove its dish half way though, you have to teach this as a pup, and it will help in all kinds of situations , like if you with a load of mates and one has a young child eatting a lolly then you have no worries over the dog wanting to steal it......

for me its a simple thing, there are no bad dogs, just bad owers.

yeah i too hate this sort of thing but it is the owners that are the problem and not the dogs i have an english bull terrier who is soft as anything but if mistreated has the strength to do this sort of dammage what ever happened to dog licensing bring it back in my opinion would have no problem paying for a licesence if it helped to stop this

It is 100% down to the owners....nurture not nature.  I have a Rottweiler who is a fantastic family pet, mixes well with other dogs and is very obedient.  He is not some macho token to show off around the streets like some of these fucking cackers have.  I grew up with the breed (not in the jungle book sense!), and have had them as family pets for years.

The law needs to be changed to stop any dog falling into the wrong hands.  Any breed has the potential to do serious harm.  To brand a particular breed as 'dangerous' is like saying all black people are criminals......its a ridiculous statement.

The only reason those jobs are there, is because there are too many lazy gobshite workshy benefit scrounging bastards in this country, so anyone that wants to work hard, should be welcome to, no matter where they are from........sorry, I know this is supposed to be about dogs

Some of these so called dog owners can't look after themselves or their ferral offspring so what hope is there of them being able to train a dog properly. Its a status thing ,viscious dog= tough guy ,stupid stupid idiots. I get parties of people staying at my place that go do dog training and agility courses, every breed of dog you care to mention  fron terriers to German shepherds, rottweillers, mastiffs etc etc . you can't believe how well trained and obedient these dogs are.  Sadly after all the child maulings and even deaths it still happens and the government still can't find an intelligent way to prevent this. As some of you guys have already said train the dog properly and responsibly and also train the OWNER.

Being a former dog owner of various dogs (as AndyJ will atest too  ;-) ) I remember growing up and having to buy a dog license for my mum's dog

The onus should be put back on the eejits buying these dogs rather than the femail squealing... Simple - if your dog attacks someone you go to jail; why should the dog who has been poorly trained be put down and the owner get away with a community order or a small fine.

i have an english bull and its soft as shit with my kids and people but would never leave it alone with anybody  or let it out by its self and never have it off the lead just in case it did something, its the owners fault in all cases and definatly not the dogs but there are knobheads all over the place just in these cases they own a dog aswell
