Almost certainly fuel they prone to gumming up. You'll need to get emm off and cleaned - you'll find that it may well piss fuel out of the airbox too as the floats will stick open

Docta i think you maybe on a steep learning curve!
From your last post it does sound like a fueling issue, as you can see most of the posts after that are pointing in the same direction. I would get a new battery first as incorrect voltage at sensors / pick ups will cause problems. Im scratching my memory but the G1 G2 are carb models with the heating set up from the water system "I THINK"

As the boys have pointed out the carbs seem gummed up, your descripition suggest its running on the idle circuit badly!
The gummed up stuff is a brown residue (Sulphur) left as the fuel evaporates. This gets in all the wet fuel areas of the carbs, main, idle circuits emulsion tubes basically all over. To get it clean with some certainty you need to strip the carbs right down, diaphragms, slids, bowls and so on you get the picture.

You said your mechanical skill were not good, for this job you need help! But remember we all had to start some where, see if the local bike shop mechanic does hommers. You could help and pick a bit up!

Sorry if i have belittled you mechanical skills, but probably best to seek help before you get in to far and cause your self more trouble and frustration.

If your jumping it to start it then once running  it still has a shot battery, it should run from the alternator once started but what if the alternator is the cause of the duff battery ??  you be trying to run it on less than 12 volts, start by getting a good battery, check charging and at least you know you have the volts needed to run ECU, pump etc.  ;-)

It could be running a total loss system...

As the others have said - it sounds like carbs need cleaning, and I'd definitely start with a new battery. Do a search on ebay for one and it shouldn't cost you more than 30 quid
