proper fook 'ed off
« on: April 28, 2010, 08:48:36 PM »

ok so i bought a zx6 track bike a while ago and to be honest fook knows why i walked away with it in the first place!! it wasnt the greatest looking bike but in my mind i kept thinking u know what it really doesnt matter cos if i bin it im not gonna cry.
BUT can i get the bastard thing to go OHHHHHHHHH no and ive got on with a bit now.
stripped most of it down had a clean up removed fairing trying to tidy them up but then the rad split so after a bit of searching i found one but now i still cant get the fookin thing to stay on, to be honest ive had enough now, u know the feeling was good then aint so good .
so what do u guys reckon i should do fuck it off now and be done with it ? or try to get it sorted? (the latter is the harder one for me as im not to great with the mechanic side of things. isnt there someone who i could sling some shakels and they would just sort it out for me........... or is that just lazy??
its really giving me the hump now and all i really want to do is ride the damn thing!!!!!

A lot depends on you- do you want to say bollocks and get rid or not?
The other side is - what year/model?, condition, spares, etc and most important - PRICE if you do want rid(bearing in mind it won't run)

Things always look better in the morning, Start with the simply things 1st before you sell,

1, Battery is fully charged
2, Turn IGN on does aall the lights come on
3, Kill stop in (Does it turn over??)
4, If not turning over or lights check fuses and side stand switch?
5, These are simply checks and any keen motorcyclest can do.

IF ALL THE ABOVE ARE OK TRY

1, Remove panels, find the fuel pump disconnect pipe from tank turn IGN (Key) and starter does fuel piss out? (Pump could be in tank so listen)
2, Remove tank, remove 1 X HT lead and plug, Put a spark in the lead (a new one) Does it spark?
3, if it sparks on all 4 HT leads, The problem is Fuel side
4, If it does not spark and you plugs are wet, ITs IGN side, Poss CDI,Kill switch,Loom,Short etc.
5, Change plugs and Fuel

Do these checks then you can get  close to the issue.

A) check spark plugs first

as fuel that has "pissed out" of the tank will have fun with the open spark plug

B) when checking the plugs as above a) make sure the treaded part of the plug is held against the engine to create its earth path, b) DO NOT hold the plug with your hand as you crank it over

IT WILL HURT

A lesson my father kindly taught me at 16: "You hold the plug, I'll kick it over".

Remember working with a mechanic that would happily hold onto the HT leads then ask you to pass him a spanner/screwdriver/whatever - coont...............

cheers guys for the advice last night was a nightmare and what with the old woman in my ear (cos i bought aduff one!!) u get the picture.
right so this is what the bike does. battery is shot so im jumping just to get a current, bike starts and runs for a bit but sometimes backfires badly, when i go to accelerate i will not hold the rev counter it just jumps about? put it into first it makes the whell go so can only assume drive is ok? but then it will cut out abruptly and if u go to rev the throttle it cuts out there too.

problem is because i dont know enough about bikes if something is missing on it i prob woudnt know,  i know i know im a complete newbie at this(poxy joke for someone that knox in heating systems on a daily basis) :icon_scratch:

If your jumping it to start it then once running  it still has a shot battery, it should run from the alternator once started but what if the alternator is the cause of the duff battery ??  you be trying to run it on less than 12 volts, start by getting a good battery, check charging and at least you know you have the volts needed to run ECU, pump etc.  ;-)
