04 is the best after ya spend a small fortune in trick bits but out the box the 08 is better.... other than the horrid front lights... they work well but look silly.... but still better than most other bikes they are doing  :icon_thumleft:

Good post.

each will say it's the one they own and the poll's a little weird  :icon_scratch:

Yep but i'm different  ;-)

Unbiased - had the 04 for 4 years from new and loved it.
Had the 08 for a year and loved it but i'm moving onto something different.

And.

In my opinion.........(like for like) gotta be the 08.

Naturally it's more expensive than the earlier model but that's up to the buyer to justify.

Short answer :

The 08 is a lot more stable and the motor has a bigger top-end hit but doen's start to really pull until 7,000 rpm - the 04 has a better punch from the midrange.

The brakes on the 08 are far better too (even with standard pads) - as good as an 04 with Brembo m/cyl,hoses,fresh fluid and Bendix pads.

The shocker on the 08 is still far from 'compliant' but it's a notch above the solid steel rod fitted to the 04.

The clocks are far easier to read on the 08 (and you get a gear indictor too).

Both great bikes in their own way but the 08 is a slightly better all-rounder;a better road bike but still capable on track whereas the 04 is a bit of a nightmare on road but excellent on a smooth track   :icon_thumleft:

The brakes were excellent on my 04 when new and again when fitting HH pads, but I agree with the rest.

cant see the point in having 2 similar bikes.........buy something to tour about on or enduro type........and bling the 04 with the money saved from a new one  :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft:
Don't really want to put to much bling on it,racefit growler, power commander(done on dyno)gpr damper and a few other bits and pieces.Have traded in a 1200 bandit which I never used and will never sell my 04.
I think some people are obsessed with the adding bits and pieces which can end up costing a fortune and doesn't really improve the bike.
