New or old zx10
« on: January 27, 2009, 11:57:51 AM »

Hi everyone,I live in northumberland and have an 04 zx10.Have just ordered a new one but will be keeping my 04 which i have had from new.
I doubt that the new one will be any better, does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Are the winters getting longer,or is it just me?

Thanks everyone,I think a lot of people including all the magazines are now just realizing how good a bike the 04 was.It was continually voted 3rd behind the r1 and fireblade but now all agree that the zx10 is a much better bike than both.
Will have to see if the 08 is any better.

Short answer :

The 08 is a lot more stable and the motor has a bigger top-end hit but doen's start to really pull until 7,000 rpm - the 04 has a better punch from the midrange.

The brakes on the 08 are far better too (even with standard pads) - as good as an 04 with Brembo m/cyl,hoses,fresh fluid and Bendix pads.

The shocker on the 08 is still far from 'compliant' but it's a notch above the solid steel rod fitted to the 04.

The clocks are far easier to read on the 08 (and you get a gear indictor too).

Both great bikes in their own way but the 08 is a slightly better all-rounder;a better road bike but still capable on track whereas the 04 is a bit of a nightmare on road but excellent on a smooth track   :icon_thumleft:

i think that when this thread is dead and buried,,,and you look back at all the post you will find that the 04/05 bike will come out on top,,,,,,,,,it will have to be noted that most of us that have an 04/05 will have done all the mods needed to bring it in line and up to dates with the brakes and shocker,,,,,,,,,,,,,so old or new was the question and for me its OLD but with a few little mods............

it just has the edge on style,,,,,,,,,, :icon_thumright:

Loved my old '05 but changed it last Oct last year for a new 58 plate.

Not really had a chance to do that many miles yet so cant really say which I prefer.

Looks wise it a close thing.....From some angles I prefer the old one and others the new   :dontknow:

04 is the best after ya spend a small fortune in trick bits but out the box the 08 is better.... other than the horrid front lights... they work well but look silly.... but still better than most other bikes they are doing  :icon_thumleft:
