free training has to be a good thing and I'll see if I can do some this year.............

I was on the M56 the other day and saw a 2000 BMW 3 series 'X' reg, unmarked had pulled someone over

Just noticed that they are advertising on the Bike Safe website that they are doing a weekend event in Cheltenham racecourse.

Sat 31 march
Sun 1 April

If anyone is interested.  I'll probably go along as anything that can help me stay alive whilst on the bike is welcome in my view.

Anyone else fancy it?

I quite fancy doing the "First Bike on Scene" course as well.  This is first aid training geared towards motorcyclist who are the first on the scene of a bike accident.  I think the main idea is to prepare you for the event to stay calm, collected and do the correct things in the correct procedure.  I would hope to never use it, but just to be on the safe side I'd like to be in control of myself should the worst happen.

I'd be up for that - just down the road from here. Besides, I picked up one of their leaflets the other day and was thinking about going along. If nothing else, you get to know your local coppers, which can't be a bad thing if they ever stop you - miiiiight just give you an edge... :dontknow:

But the training I agree with for sure - it's the whole "look ahead and anticipate" way of thinking that's important - it's surprising how many people don't.

I did a spot of advanced training while I lived in Ireland and qualified as an instructor over there - involved the whole RoSPA assessment malarkey and getting tested by an ex-uk-police instructor. It's an eye-opener for sure - the things that that those guys notice and remember is quite startling. As was mentioned earlier, anything that helps me stay alive and improves my riding cannot be bad.

i might go to that... wanna post in the ORGANISE YOUR OWN MEETS section, see if we can get some more support..

dunno why they cant just do the course on their normal bmws and hondas though.. seems like a excuse to spend our tax money on a bike that isnt multi purpose at all, and is totally unpractical as a police bike.....

They do use the normal bmw's and thier hondas, it's just that they have this Gixer for events and so forth.  As a Police bike it's fully equiped with video, speed gun pretty much most of the parafanalia that is usually carried.  It has the blues and twos as well.

Also started a thread in ORGANISE YOUR OWN MEETS

Does this mean that when the first plod falls off of this Gixxer 'cos they've put too much feckin gear on the back, they're going to blame Suzuki for building a crap bike , just like they did with BMW ???[rofl]

I don't know, the only time I've ever seen anything like this its always turned out to be a gimmick to put the frightners up us .

Falls into the same bracket as the unmarked Blackbirds and Escort Cosworths that they always showed us at shows in the NE of scotland, none of those ever did a days service for them.

the rest of europe have got it right... cars are confiscated off drug dealers, if they're shit they get sold, if they're good, they get "re assigned"
