new rubber
« on: October 21, 2008, 10:46:31 AM »

so how do you get that stupid silicon off of your tires?.  I got a new 2ct on the back the other day there (was thinking of the corsa III but its a 2ct on the front and i have got used to them) so i went off to the first junction i could find and did a small burnout (i think throwing rubber over gilberts beemer as he was behind me) big pile of smoke, a few car horns with people leaning out of their car windows with their thumbs up which was nice.

Anyway rolled it around a bit and felt it was safe to drive home on after that(taking it easy of course)

Yesterday i had done about 100km on it and was thinking ok, i can lean a bit further over now, next thing i know the back wheel is jsut about overtaking me but i was going slowly altho fairly high up the rev range in first.

So how the hell do you get rid of the silicon off the last little bits without having to worry about loosing the back end??.  Obviously this is not my first new rear tire and i have as yet to fall off because of it but i have had the back end out a few times because of it

p.s despite that new tires are f'in great

just warm the tyres up going fast n a straight line and braking do the usualy weave you see plonkers like me doing to try and hit the side wall then go and fine yourself a nive left and a nice right and just get it over don't worry about dropping it unless your tyres are cold, they should hold..... I had a new set of avons and within 5 minutes I had them round my our little circuit scrubbing them in and no problem with losing them  :icon_thumleft:

I just keep it smooth but progressive my tyre place is about 15 mile away so by the time i get out of town there is heat in the tyres ready to hit the twisties on the way home  :icon_thumleft:

Ditto, keep the riding smooth, the tyres will need a couple of heat cycles before you can start pushing them, as Glenn/Si said  :icon_thumright:

Best way to get some heat in the tyres is hard acceleration and braking, don't worry about swerving all over the place as this only cleans the tyre and attracts the old Bill

PS - make sure you got the right tyre pressures

As all above have stated + gradually lean it further and further but keep a constant throttle till there scrubbed, dont be winding it on cranked over until their scrubbed. :icon_thumleft:

well, i have been working hard on the way to work and back to get rid of the chicked strips unfortunately its almost all left turns/bends and you go counter clockwise on roundabouts here so my left hand side is almost completely gone but by right side takes up 1/4 of the tire, looks kind of weird
