pride of britian
« on: October 01, 2008, 09:29:23 PM »

Just sitting here watching the pride of britian and its amazing to see some of the people on there, myself and my wife have just been moved with the young lad with cancer who became good friends with another lad in the hospital also suffering with cancer who unfortunateley died, but then went on to do a sponsered swim even though he found it very hard to even walk because thats where his cancer was (in the leg)and went on to raise a lot of moeny for cancer research and that got me thinging about us lot on here. Now i myself lost my father when i was 21 to lung cancer and i also know another good friend off here, and i hope he dos'nt mind me saying jay (AKA EXJ10R) lost his father to cancer,i also know other people even as i write this that are suffring from cancer in some form, now the reason im writhing this is as we all love our bikes and riding or racing so much would'nt it be a great day or a couple of days if we could all get together to raise money for cancer research, now im not sure how or what we could do to but im sure with all of us out there im sure we can come up with some good ideas,i think it would be fantastic if we could do something for next year so come on lads and lasses get your thinking caps on  :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft:

I here ya!

I watched it while at work and was also moved at some of the things people do when faced with a situation. I had the same chain of thought but with no clue as to were to start, a fund raiser would be good for next year. Sure get my vote! I'm in!

it would be good to have a zx10r charity to give to....but i would prefer to give it to something like the ambulance service or the helicopter service...something that does not get as much money raised for it as it needs....cancer research is a great money eater but they are on the right track to defeat it now they have isolated the main protein string that makes it grow, i think in 10 years cancer will be beat full stop...

But I will go along with the concensus....

perhaps we can do a list of all the possible causes we could devote ourselves to,  have a vote and go from there...

Cancer and Air ambulance get my vote.

My dad went to cancer too.

But would be difficult to sort the money for the air ambulanxce charities as they are divided into different counties.

As said, Air Ambulance is very difficult to split cash for as they're split over the different counties...

Just to throw another one in, how about a childrens cancer charity?

Something like CLIC Sargent?

If anything does come of it then I'd be more than happy to approach my bosses about getting sponsers/collections through work (Girlsbike2)  :icon_thumright:

I think the childrens cancer charities are far better value for your money than the general ones.  Do you ahve any idea how much gets wasted in the cancer charities and virtually none of the money goes towards looking for a cure etc.  At least the childrens charities organise a lot of things for the children.  Maybe we can do a ride around the major childrens hospitals of europe for a week distributing kindly donated presents for them and showing off a little bit to give them a good time.

The other charity i usually feel for is epilepsy due to having it myself, again no real money goes into finding a cure(there are so many different causes it wouldnt be worth it) but helps get people out of the house who are too scared to leave in case they have a seizure (believe me theres nothing more frightning than having a seizure, especially if you are concious during it like me) - Also theres not much going for the epileptics, they dont get any of the benefits of being disabled(if you can call them benefits) such as parking spaces etc but are automatically rejected from being able to do so much like drive or have a good career (i am lucky that i have nocturnal epilepsy so can drive but i am not allowed to fly, join the army, be a trucker etc)

Great Ormonds Street hopsital? Treats everyone especially the kids.
With what I do for a living we could set up something REALLY outrageous. Might be able to arrange something with Eon Productions who do Bond.
