The maintenance costs tend to be cheaper than petrol driven alternative so thats not really an issue, i think the biggest problem is loosing your boot to the massive lpg tank, i was looking at estate cars recently and a few had lpg conversions but that made the estate useless for carrying stuff

Thing is mate diesel was cheap once then when everyone started using it the price shot up ..........prob be the same way with LPG    .plus u will prob lose ur spare wheel space ,then legally ull have to run RUN flat tyres and they ant cheap !!!!!

just checked the gov website which basically reads to me that emissions are bettered but they will not be creditied in the VED, tossers

Liquid petroleum gas (LPG) cars are not available for purchase new in the UK but petrol cars can be converted. Converting an older petrol car can bring local air quality pollutant emissions more in line with more modern cars - but will only continue to do so if the conversion is well engineered and maintained.

Your tax will go down but don't know by how much. I think you can check on dvla.gov.
But you will have no boot, although the rumour is that you will get more torque.

not bothered about boot space so no worries there with the Focus and the spare is a space saver type so can still stay, still reasonably interested but we'll see  

Point is we cover lots of miles in both the Vecta which is diesel and 50mpg and the Focus which is around 30mpg and need to save some money medium term and the focus is in great nick with only 50k on the clock

no mate the ones ive seen fitted in modern cars are round and fit in the space for the spare ,so you would have to hv the space saver sloshing around in the boot

so convert ur vectra to also run on used vegitable fat (that will save you a few bucks if u get ur bulk of fuel from the local chippies throw away) also doesnt the tax go down if your car runs on biofuels??? not to sure about that

I think lpg might also effect your resale value people usually think its a good idea till they see the car and the tank.  But it is a lot less wearing on the engine so lpg cars often do much more miles than petrol with the engine still running well, also you quite often get better power as well as fuel consumption

edit - i havent seen the new ones in the spare wheel well so my info in that respect is prob wrong then

aye no worries there fella as we don't really use the boot much as the Vectra is our carrying car  


I've emailed the gov site to see what they say about VED as i couldn't find anything on the site

i think 1 problem is that the government said that they wont tax LPG as much,or at all,until 2010,so i can only assume when that time arrives expect it to go the same way as other fuels..

I had an old Range Rover running on LPG. Biggest problem for me was actually finding garages that sold LPG. There are a few more about now though. Car ran great and I never had any problems with it. Big tank in the back though.
