I think you will be rather dissapointed if you buy an 02/03 r1 it simply isnt agressive enough, the 98 was a far more fun machine. the k3/4 gixxer is the same Its a damned fast bike on the road but it jsut doesnt feel like it'll chew you up and spit you out.
So far the only 2 bikes that suited me when it came to aggression and fun, the 98r1 and the 05 10r, as the 98r1 is a bit old school now i would think that would leave you with the 05 10r. I never liked the 06/07 10r for a variety of reasons which you will find across this board and i have never ridden the 08 yet)
do yourself a favour tho, if you get an 04/05 10r stick an ohlins steering damper on it, it really helps.
and finally be carefull when u first jump on it, i traded in my 03 gixxer thou and jumped onto this beast on the way home i thought it would be good to see how fast it was off the lights against my friends bmw 850 and just about lost my teeth when the front end shot up at an incredible rate
