crikey err,yes to the 1st question.

been to...

val des isere (3 times or 4)
Andorra a couple of times
Italy
Austria couple of times

tbh,it all depends on what you want,if you want fantastic skiing, with ok night life, and expensive beers, and lots of very posh mid 20yr old girls spending daddy's money then val de isere is good for that.decent hotels are expenssive, food is good, but as with everything you pay for what you get.i've done half board here in a top hotel which is cool, ski to the door etcc.. but you pay top dollar, plus i've self catering, and done the catered chalet.the chalet optiion is best imo, everything done for you,but at half the price of the hotels.

Andorra is ok skiing, but with fantastic apre, cheap.not been for 8 yrs tthough, and believe that the skiing has got a lot better, due to the whole ski area being opened up as 1 massive piste(it used to be 2 seperate areas, which meant 2 ski passes).

As to the other places,Austria again is fantastic sking, very lively apre, but expensive and full of germans. :pottytrain2:

where you thinking of going, and at what level are you?(i.e. first time )?

but regardless,it's always an expensive holiday, after travel, food, ski passes, ski hire if you need to,apre,it usualy costs me over 1k for a week, which is 2 foreign track days :crybaby2:,but if you enjoy it,it is an absolute blast.

I have been Levi and am thinking of going back as it has everything I want.... it is a bit pricey but great... night life was good and skiing was good to.. they say its 83% intermediate but I managed ok never skiing before.... I only did it for 2 days though... I would say I am beginner still though but I was hitting the inters slopes first day ....  :icon_thumleft:

tbh,i wouldn't worry about the %of black/red runs(harder stuff),as anyone wwith a basic grasp of skiing can get down them anyway, and after a few days you soon learn the basic technique of going tit over arse [rofl]

but i would reccomend having a 1 on 1 with an instructer to nail the basics, then it's all a peice of piss after that. :icon_thumleft:

the guy who taught me has ski'd since he was 2 , he is 31 ... he said I was pretty good.... I don't piss about with the snow plough anymore hahaha

and to be honest I didn't fall over t0 much ..... but I did have some great tumbles  [rofl] [rofl] [rofl]

I am more worried about the ease of getting to thing and how the night life is... Levi was great not more than a 5/10 minute walk for anything and lots of slopes  :icon_thumright:

+ Skiing quality: Hi resorts in France (Val Thorens) are nearly always very good due to the altitude (2000+m at resort), banff was good but very cold. Austria, exceptionally pretty and skiing OK.

For pure variety of skiing, Les Trois Valley takes some beating (either Courchevel - lots of Brits tho, Meribel - Ditto, Val Thorens (more europeans) or Mottaret are all good options with lots of variety on accomodation/prices.

Taking a chick - do Kitzbuhel in Austria - so fucking pretty - especially at Christmas - go late season for best snow.

As Jamie said, get some 1-2-1 tuition -- it'll be the best money you spend on a skiing holiday - 1 day 1-2-1 is about the same as 2 weeks in a school -- in France use Ecole Du Ski France (ESF) for best instruction (but not cheapest!).  A couple of days will get you from able red to stylish competent red (parallel, fall line skiing).

i'm off to Val Thorens 1st march :headbang:
missed out last year after i broke my ankle the week before i was supposed to be going.Still not 100% sure i'll be ok as i still have limited movement with it, :-(.

bought some new ski's aswell last yr aswell,so need to give these buggers a go. :icon_thumright:

Been there all week -- fantastic snow and incredibly quiet.  I cant recall queuing for any lift for more than 30 seconds !  Most were ski straight in and hop on.  Enjoy -- I managed to snap a ski in half this trip - good job I took the rental insurance - something I never do typically.  100 euro excess instead of 685 euro's !!

Where are you staying ?  We stayed at Les Balcons, right at the top of the resort - great spot / views - spent drinkkies time in El Gringo's and the Rhum Box, occasional visit to the "Irish Pub" for some guiness recovery ;-)
