just wondered if you guys can help a buddy of mine who's having a nightmare with his central heating boiler which is only 4 years old.

The thing is that he's passed his bike test recently and 'needs' to buy a bike but is trying to balance a purchase of a nice bike against a new boiler, surely it's a minor fixable problem that must be common

Anyhow here's the details and any help will be much apprecaited...........

The details of the set-up are:
Boiler make:  Baxi
Boiler model: 105e (I think)
Age:             4 years (ish)
Symptoms:  Boiler repeatedly cuts out as if the water in the heating system has reached a sufficiently high temperature, but then starts up again almost immediately.  This only occurs in the heating system, the hot water seems fine (until last night when the boiler seemed to give up the ghost completely).  After being reset last night, the boiler seems to have regained the will to live, but still seems to be cutting out and back in again.

Im seeing my uncle tonight Andy, he is a boiler specialist. If i remember i will ask him what he thinks.

 is this a combi boiler mate   or a normal boiler //if its a combi ..check the water pressure

I can help I used to work in the trade...

I need to know whether its a combi boiler or a convention vented or unvented system

same thing just happen to my boiler it cuts out now won't switch on mine is an unvented water system .... My problem was the 2 way valve for the heated was faulty the motor on the valve head wasn't switching across letting the boiler switch on for the water.

does his boiler coming on to heat the water

try a full bleed of the system. this happened with our old one when there was air in the system and the boiler thought the return flow was hot enough. the thermostat could be an issue though, where is it in relation to the nearest radiator?

you would be able to tell if the boiler thinks its hot enough by the 2/3 way valve it will not motor across

tis what I said Jon same thing happen to me....

could be that you can replace the valve head rather than the whole valve, depending age and make you might be able to do it your self without draining the system.

I have the new honeywell 2 way valve and they have a plate on it so you can replace the head without turning water of or draining down..
