Has anyone successfully changed the actual mirror glass? I got a good mirror for the R1 off ebay, but the silvering is going on the mirror, the rest of it is mint. I wondered about getting a replacement mirror glass at Halfords and using the oem as a template, is this feasible or will it shatter? How easy is it get the old mirror out? I could just smash it and get seven years bad luck and no template.

Ask someone else to remove the glass

Changed one on the Golf a few months back. It was a replacement from Halfords and all you need to do is stick it over the existing mirror.

There isn't much recess, the edge of the glass would be on show. What's annoying is my original mirror has perfect glass and a broken mounting point, but the glass is a different shape to the Y2K mirrors, which I fitted for more rear vision.
