I have a road bike 05 10 and a 98 R1 trackbike? Been doing trackdays now for last 4 years and can honetly say i have far more fun hooning around a circuit :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

Its far safer on a track with everything going in the same direction, and when you've set the bike up and get all your corners spot on theres no better feeling. :glasses9:

I have friends that used to race and eventually sold their road bikes and just did trackdays,as road riding could not give them the buzz they were looking for?

My suggestion would be get a trackbike and have a go for a year or 2, then make a decision about road riding

Same as you Glen. always worrying about the coppers, traffic, badgers, hedgehog, cars etc. breaks the rythm of a good ride.

[rofl] good to see you back online Bud! :icon_thumright: Glenn and you both think the same as moi, basically the road don't satisfy me the same as the track and am nervous of coppers, trees, kerbs, tractors and mostly other traffic, to risky to hoon and get the same buzz as you do on track, I'm not loaded but will hopefully be able to buy some track bodywork for the 10R. And before anyone says anything my 10R makes so much sense on the track :headbang: it's fucking mega.

I am myself starting to ask the same questions about road riding   the trouble is our roads are full of speed paranoid idiots in cars who couldn't tell the difference between 30 mph side roads and blooming dual carriagways.

Answer a trackbike with Daytime MOT   :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

As i said,i enjoy riding on the road especially abroad! Find youself a decent set of twisties and play for free.My twisties are well sussed out,i know where the Old Bill hide and i know my road....BUT im not saying SHIT cant happen either.............BUT im not saying its better than track riding cos its not but not by alot tho.I cant justify having nigh on 6K stuck in the garage just to use on the track either!!

well im thirsty for all kinds of bike action...

yes ive only had a licence for almost 2 years, but in those two years, ive done an awful lot - so although i might not be experienced in years, id like to think that im at least as experienced as your average fairweather rider. i have a total of about 40, 000 bike road miles to my name. over the space of two years, thats quite a lot (and a conservative estimate)...ive been to sheffield lots via work and the isle of man on the bike too - an interesting journey, met lots of people on the way (i travelled there on my own). fine, it wasnt the supergirl version of the long way round, but still, it was a long journey, plus ive seen the A1, the centre of london and the back roads more times than ive had sex this year (and roxy, that's lots, no reference to my other half, btw  :emb:)...

what im trying to say is that i think, on average, im relatively experienced on the road - and in quite a varied way.

well u know i race - badly, but im working on it and trying lots of things out - at least im competitive in the rain! as long as i dont crash lol and im quite good at cadwell, which is a very technical circuit - its probably the circuit im best at, if you compare me with the better riders at each circuit.

and you know i do track days - which, to me, are like sedate and disciplined race days...until i buy that laptimer ive been looking for lol

and now i got the trail bike im gonna start doing that offroad thang...

what im trying to show is that i like the challenge of all of it. i dont think its all still new to me. theres a great deal for me to learn, but my feeling is that the more i do something the more i realise i know even less than i did when i started! for me its all about learning! the reason i took up racing was exactly that! to learn! i dont have an older brother or dad who could show me mechanical stuff (and mum certainly aint getting her nails dirty) so the only way i can do it is by watching others and muddling along,myself...

thats why i have three bikes: my road bike, my race bike and my offroading bike - cause i want to learn about them all- not because i want to show off or because im rich - im not - i had to take a payment holiday from the mortgage to pay for the kdx and the zx is on finance and a previous non fault crash and the landrover paid for the racebike, so its not about me having money either - its about making sacrifices to do what i want to do: learn.

thats whats great about bike insurance policies over car ones - you can change vehicles lots without paying any excesses etc!

im pro bike - i dont care what surface its on - or what bike it is...

youre right to be worried - but i dont think that being worried on the road is any more than being worried on track - its a different thing.

take my situation - crashed on road how many times? injury to self - none. crashed on track during a race once - broke probably one of the most important sets of bones in my body. that doesnt mean i think either is safer - the road is safer than the track because you dont (arent supposed to) push it as hard - your alertness and anticipation are your skills - the track is safer than the road - because you have less other types of hazard to worry about - but then that leads me to my conclusion:

your biggest hazard is you.

and dont i bloody know it lol. im certainly 'my own worst enemy'. but thats why i put myself through it - i love to learn.
