Got to agree with you there.
Compared to some of my friends I've got off lightly. One friend racked up the following in one go. Both legs broken, broken arm, broken ribs, punctured lung, punctured spleen (removed), fractured skull,  damaged kindey (removed). Quite some time in ITU. He did ride again, but got knocked off, so decided to call it quits. Was an unlucky person. To be really morbid, the worst any of my friends had meant we burried him last year.

i was back on a bike (only for a little blat) three months after my off, still with bad double vision, and nerve damage in my throttle/brake hand... had to ride with one eye shut..

Tripple fracture of my pelvis, fracture to my spine, crushed nerves around my kneecap (so reduced feeling) and 6 stiches in my face. Dread to think what would have happened if I'd had a open face helmet on. Andy J will also probably say I looked like shite when he saw me in hospital the day this happened.
