By the way. Most of the race bikes you see use a reddy pink brake fluid. Wonder what that is :dontknow:

Here comes AndyJ  [whistle]

I bled the brakes a month ago with some cheap shit I bought last minute and it lasted 2 days till the lever was back to the bar, this was in wet/monsoon season.

By the weekend I put some decent stuff in and it's working fine now, so it can get bad.

I made a redlight stop 8 feet further than the line on the way home so that's how bad it can be.

That's what gave me the idea. I'll settle for red or pink! Different is always good, but obviously i still want my brakes to work well. :dontknow:

I'd be really interested on running some of the pink stuff as i have seen it in pictures on race bikes. To the comments of "looks" Yeah, i like my things to look cool/trick/different, but like has been said, these differing colours have been spotted on race bikes (pictures at least) and if it's good enough for the pro's it's certainly good enough for moi.  :icon_thumright:

I have looked high and low over the past couple of days though and cannot find any pics god damn it!  [wall]

Chris give Cresent Suzuki a bell and ask them because i know they use it on their race bikes. Let us know what you find out.

One other thing. Where did you get the clear pipe and is it specifically brake pipe? If not be careful.

The pink stuff is mineral oil.

Read up about it here.

I assume he just means from his m/c to his top reservoir.  As long as the pipe is heavy duty and you get a good seal, tis no different.  I good example is like on my rear brake since Chris got rid of my rear ressy.  Its just a bit of tube with a cap and some fluid in it.  The brake lines from the m/c's are goodridge.  Thats where it will make the difference.

Twonk,

Does the mineral oil boil like a DOT fluid, if so what rating should we be looking at for motorbikes?

Yeah it still boils but i think the idea behind is that it doesnt absorb water/moisture.

I havent used it, i am sticking with my castrol SRF, never had brake fade with that in. It isnt cheap but i only change it every 6 months unlike some people who change it ever time the bike goes out.

If you can find someone to share the cost each time its good, cos once you open the bottle it starts taking in moisture, so 6 months later even though you have half a bottle left its still not at its best.

I thought they say the SRF stuff is the ONLY brake fluid you CAN leave opened and still use later?

Its actually worse than for taking in moisture when left than other dot4's, its dot 5.1 that dont take on moisture as much. The point about SRF is the high boiling point, which is probably the most common point in brake fade, the more a fluid boils the more it breaks down and absorbs moisture.

There is other stuff out there called ATE's super blue (DOT4)racing, lower boiling point but still quite good... and its blue!
Found it here - http://www.raceshopper.com/ate_brake_fluid.shtml
