Tyres...........
« on: July 28, 2007, 09:16:57 PM »

Ok so I have been through a few tyres in the last few months so I though I would give some feed back....  :icon_thumleft:

Tyres I have used or ridden on....

Mine

208's
014'2
viper xtreme
viper super sport
supercorsa pro's

Darrens bike Racetecs

Simples Qualifers

well I often get people telling me that if you are a good rider then the tyres will hold , you won't be able to reach the limit of your tyres etc etc....

well this may be but why should you sacrifice something as important as confidence.... Now I don't ride like the acemen but I aint no slouch.... and the 208/014 lacked any feel that they were actually sticking... they just feel solid and this lack confidence... now at cruising speed this tyres were ok and straight lines they had great stability but it was the cornering speed and lack of the feedback saying that they were actually working.... I also had to wait till the bike was almost upright before giving it some real power too...

Now my personal opinion and its just my opinion (we are all entitled to one) the ten was built to have sticky tyres....

Supercorsa,racetecs,xtreme's ....

If you think that you are fast but lack any confidence anywhere in your riding then I would put my bottom dollar on this helping..... it makes such a differences to me  :icon_thumleft:

I will say though that the Viper Xtremes are a great tyre but the wear quick so maybe a supercorsa pro or racetec a better option  :icon_thumleft:

I only had an issue with the OE 218's when they were cold but then again I don't ride that hard being an old fart.

The racetecs feel absolutely planted as will the supercorsa's, for me the Metzeler / Pirelli have always made me feel more confident than any other brands so that does it for me everytime.

I recall way back in the 90's running Metzelers ME99's for the old guys and ME33/11 lazer fronts and what a difference from others available and when I put a Pireeli MP7 on my ZXR it was a revelation for my confidence.

Therefore for me it's a Pirelli/Metzeler thing everytime  :icon_thumright:  the tyres and bike are far beond my personal skill  :icon_thumright:

Yeah I've always used supercorsa pro/rennsport (now racetec) on my bikes. And yes Pat if it is a bit wet those s/c pro's provide some interesting handling experiences

Remeber that tyres have different ways of being built and often different tyres require different suspension settings to get the best from them. Some tyres soak up bumps into the carcase more some dont, they let the suspension do it etc. But saying that i am yet to meet someone who likes dunlop road tyres!

What ever gives you confidence is a good tyre.

Hi, got some racetec scrubs from ebay, cleaned up really nice on the road then did a whole day at brands. Stick like the preverbial to a blanket. They are looking a bit more used now but feel fine on the road .Anybody know if they would be OK for another track day as I don't know how much the heat affects them. Grabbed some Corsa 111's While offer was on but would like to use the racetec fully first if they will be OK. Cheers

What group doyou run in at trackdays? Do you know what life they had before you got them? Do you use tyre warmers?

If youre  medium pace and they have not really had a hard life then they will be as good as the diablo 3's so just run them again.

depends on how many heat cycles they have had mate....... My mate uses racetecs all year rounds though.... but I am sure they are a different compound to the race ones.... if you have only done the one trackday and they have only been used for 1 race session as long as you don't cain them on the road I reckon you should just be ok for another trackday...... but I think that would be it.... not that I am a tyre expert but i can just imagine that many heat cycles making the rubber go off  :dontknow:

Normally get about four or five trackdays from a brand new set of supercorsa pro's. Most tyre fitters reckon on four...

I have seen racetecs without the K1 K2 written on them  :emb:

and supercorsa pros have a road one and the SC1 and SC2 etc  :icon_thumright:
