thanks dave intresting read that mate..
so i will have to sand the decals alittle before the clear coat , duz that mean i gota sand the base coat that the decals are going onto.....

If I was doing it I would clear coat the panel and let it dry , flat it with 1200 w+d then apply decals, gently give them a key with a grey scotch pad , clean off, tack off and put a couple more coats of clear on . If your decals are thin enough and you want a really pro flat look you could then flat the whole panel again with 1200 or 1500 to remove the raised edges around the decal and re clear again with 2 coats and polish when dry. This will mean you cant feel any height to the decals and they will look more painted on. Its the same as lacquering over air brush work or stripes.

thanks for all the replys guys
ended up not bothering with the clearcoat , finished pic's are on gallery under my trackbike pic's
