« on: April 29, 2007, 05:11:31 PM »

cold tear...... my tyres are ripping big time and I thought it was because they were really warm... but heard that term for cold tyres and Et said summit about it today...

would it be that my tyres are ripping up cause they are not warm enough....

if this is the case feck me my tyre don't half stick even though they are cold....

yes I've heard it,

I understand that it's a mixture of surface and tyre temp not being warm enough and the tyre losing grip slightly and ripping the tread apart, i thought it was more relevant to racing that road riding though  :dontknow:

Check the pressures are right. You'll get tearing if they are a bit low.

Thats definately not cold tear on your tyres mate, its getting hot dont worry about that. Its just doing its job and trying to stick 160 bhp to the road.

I think it has something to do with Avons G, when Azaro's first came out I swore by them and the same thing used to happen to the front all the time, apparently Avons do seem to run slightly cooler than other brands but they do seem to allow movement to reduce highsiding. I never really worried about as I thought the tyres were brill

Softer hoops like Racetecs, Supercorsas, your Avons and even Diablo Corsas take a little longer to get to their optimum temp, compared to something like a 2CT. They will still give a reasonable amount of grip before they reach optimum temp, but the rubber is more likely to rip up like yours did. Warm rubber doesn't rip up as much as it rolls up - look at tracked tires and you'll see what I'm talking about. The way we were riding last week, we pretty much gassed it from the off so the tire was working hard before it was proper warm.
