I never go out on a sunday afternoon  [naughty] early sunday or evening is best, everyone is tucked up at home....also I never go out for just a scratch, always have a destination or purpose in mind.

I just had the same process in my head. Having never been on track that part was'nt a problem but i found myself not enjoying my rides unless i got my knee down etc and it was going to end in tears. I had two small crashes in the last two years after ten years upright so had to look at my riding.
Strangly i chopped the barra in for a ZZR1400 and found that i am quite happy riding about with a lot less aggresion than i had on the outright sport bikes but the speed is there if i still want a buzz.
Howver i am thinking of doing the Ron Haslem race school at some point to see if i enjoy it!

For what my opinion is worth....I faded on road riding alot when I started trackdays to the point I stopped enjoying the roads full stop. I weathered this period and I'm pleased I did. I know and except I cannot ride on the road as I do the track so I don't try. What I do is ride smoothly and progressively gaining confidence in a lesser surface and road tyres which gives me more confidence when back on circuit. It keepos me in riding practice. It would be like losing an arm not having a road bike.

i left sportsbikes last yr after having had all the IL4 1000,s over the past few yrs, i just got bored with riding them and simply not getting the most out of the bike on the road, i loved the power when i was able to use it and the handling was great when i was "on it" but i just found it hard to be "on it" everytime i went out, it got to the stage where i was having 1 really good ride in every 5 "ok" rides, and that wasnt enough for me.
So last yr i swopped the blade i had for a speed triple and i gotta say ive had a fantastic summer messing around on it, its got all the grunt and low down power of a sports bike up too about 80 mph ish and i can throw it around just as well as a sportsbike, in fact on the twisties i would say im proberbly quicker on it than i ever was on any IL4.
also the sound of the triple (i got an arrows race kit on it) is better than any IL4 ive ever heard and will always bring a smile to my face.
i do miss that top end power of a 1000cc and the occasional high speed blast and i know im a sportsbike lad at heart and will end up going back to them, but ive had an alternative summer on a streetbike thats made me laugh on virtually every ride ive had with it, and i certainly think its made me a better rider.
so to sum up i reckon for me ive done the best thing i could have done in having some time away from riding sportsbikes and my advice is if you want to find that grin on your face again when you,ve finshed your sunday ride then get yourself a speed triple or similar for a year or so, they,l allow you to be that hooligan you wanna be and let you keep your licence

Well the rc8 went yesterday for a new tenere, I'm gutted to be off a sportsbike but I just get no enjoyment riding them on the road so I'm now scouring the interweb for a zx10 trackbike : )

A fool for putting my priorities first, it's a matter of time before I either lose my license, get seriously hurt or worse I don't enjoy riding a sportsbike on the road no matter where I go,unless I'm doing a ton plus I don't get the thrill I used to so why keep it ? I enjoy trackdays so surely it makes sense to keep it on track

I'm usually bored by lunch time at a track day, 3 or 4 sessions of the same small piece of tarmac gets too samey. Never understood the tire warmers and lap timers mentality either, if you are obsessed about lap times then go racing

Like having 'a' bike that I can whip the mirrors off and use on track to learn more throttle control and to go fast, or go for a spin with me mates or Mrs EXJ for a run somewhere in europe. All about bike ownership and what ticks the right boxes for the individual
