  • Technology Will Triumph Over Skill!!!

I did this on the Porsche Club Forum, it was a really popular thread. I will try and list all my bikes in order of ownership, it starts in 1990, here goes; :icon_scratch:
1. Kawasaki AR125, learnt and test passed on it.
2. Kawasaki KR1, seized twice, ridden like a hooligan!
3. Suzuki RGV M, brilliant bike, bought a brand new one.....
4. Suzuki RGV P, branny, seized at 600 miles, sacked two strokes & part ex'd it for.....,
5. A brand new Kawasaki ZXR400. Fantastic, started track days, got knee down on it and then hit a car and wrote it off.....
6. Replaced it with a ZX6R MY '96, first proper big bike.
7. Updated with a ZX636 B1H, it was the dogs. Fortunes changed & had to sell  :crybaby2:
8. Three months later bought a Yamaha R6 MY 2000. Missed my B1H.
9. Part exchanged for a B1H and bought a second one as a track bike (no 10)
11. Return to two strokes, bought a 2000 Aprilia RS 250 (3 bikes in the garage)
12. Saw a mint black/silver RS 250 and bought that too (4 bikes in the garage). Found them limiting in the wet on track (no torque)
13. Bought a ZXR 400 track bike (5 bikes in the garage).
14. Updated my B1H and bought a ZX6R C2 (under seat exhaust, 6 bikes).
15. Matched my new bike with a matching ZX6R track bike. Missus started to moan so ran them down to the two ZX6R's. :boxing: Lasted a couple of years then came the litre bikes...
16. Bought a little Aprilia SR50 moped to commute on, right giggle.
17. Enter the ZX10R :hello2:- Mint '06 plate bike 1700 miles in green,massive power.
18. Matched it with a higher mileage track bike, tattier than advertised, previous owner was a cock. You know who you are.....
19. Replaced the SR50 with a DRZ 400 SM to commute, survive winter and green lane in the winter months, great fun but knobblies a nightmare on wet roads.
20. Changed it to a DRZ 400 Supermoto. Lost green lane ability, no power on the road....Pointless bike.
21. Sold the DRZ and bought a beautiful mint CBR 400RR mini Fireblade. It's gorgeous, nostalgic and a little screamer. Still got it.
22. Road going ZX10R a bit much for the roads....Missed my ZX6R's so bought a mint ex demo ZX6R '09, fantastic bike, still got it, sold the '06 ZX10R. Fear not....
23. Bought a low mileage '08 ZX10R in mint condition and prepared it as a track bike. Much better handling bike than previous 10. Touch wood remains mint and pampered like a baby.
Some where in those years a shitty Suzuki X7 and a Honda Dominator smeared my garage, cheap ebay hacks that were a waste of time, you get what you pay for.
Best bike...........I think the Kawasaki B1H ZX636, best handling, best sounding bike with attitude though I have loved all my kwacks. I think if I track my latest ZX6R it will supercede the B1H, that is a very useable screaming 600. Loved 'em all though!!! Somewhere in the 25 bikes region and no doubt more to come.....I think a drug habit would have been cheaper

19/08/12 Update I sold the CBR400 and replaced it with a '03 B1H ZX636R - I bought the new ZX10r with ABS (Gen 4) for the road. Kiss of death, did a track evening on it, much easier ride than the '08 model. Sold the '09 ZX6R. Kiss of death continued, just bought a second Gen 4 ZX10r this weekend to turn into a track bike and ordered no end of kit for it, this is costing me a fortune!!!

Learnt to ride on canal tow paths
on a KH100, not mine a friends so doesn't count
1) RG125 used it to commute, forever had problems with it
2) ZZR600E1 my first big bike, 2nd hand but with only 1800 miles on the clock, got wrote off when side swiped by a TVR
3) ZX9R B4 Bought New, awesome bike, big and comfortable mile muncher
4) ZX9R C1, Bought New, commuter, fantastic engine, but suffered from cold winter use.
5) ZX9R C1, bought another as a track bike.
6) ZX9R C1, bought a 3rd to strip and use for parts
7) YZFR1, first of the Injection models, great bike, comfy, toured on it, commuted on it, made a virgin race rep out of it. owned for 2.5 yrs 23k traded in for...
8) ZX10R 2005, Bought New, in Silver, awesome owned and commuted for 3 yrs, 24k miles, 2 Ring Trips and a few track days. My favorite bike to date.
9) ZX10R 2009 Bought New, in Black, due to work I don't get to use it much but to date I am impressed with the performance and have modded it a little.

Most my bikes I have used for commuting to work and back when I worked in the UK so most had 20k miles + when I sold them on/traded in.

Anyway, not a huge list but lots of mile munchers  :headbang:

I'm an old bastard who's been riding for over 30 years, so it's a decent list :

When I was living in NZ
1. TS250K - '73 model trailie, a bulletproof excellent first bike for someone with zero mechanical knowledge
2. IT400E - enduro thingie, far too much power for a crap rider, but pulled monster wheelies
3. Z400B - first roadie, and it had to be brand K, followed by ...
4. Z1000A1 - the '77 model, loved it, my first big bike, wish I still had it or another
5. Katana 1100 - superfast thing in it's day, iconic so ditto (was used as a getaway vehicle in a betting shop robbery)
6. PE400X - time for another big-bore dirt toy, but loved to foul plugs
7. GS1000SN - cheap shitbox, but yet again something else that would be cool to still have

Moved to Oz in '89, and started with
8. GSX1100FJ - the electric windshield battletruck, but great to be back on the road again
9. Z1000A4 - the Mark II, what a super-cool looking old bike
10. ZZR1100D1 - my first new bike, and lord was it a rockethship ! (cost me my license back in the day)
11. GS1000ST - dipping the toes back into GS-land ...
12. GS1000EN - ... once again
13. DT175H - went halves with a mate, to teach him to ride
14. ZXR750L3 - new roadie turned into an M superbike to race, and became a ridiculously-modified $70k obsession (aka the world's lightest ZXR750)
15. CB900FA - first foray into the F-bike phase, project that never got off the ground
16. CB1100FD - tried again, but still didn't get started !
17. YZ125L - decided I could go VMX racing, except a 125 clutch doesn't really match a 105-kg rider ...
18. ZXR750L1 - bought a trackie to rebuild as a roadie, but lost interest on the arrival of (drum roll please)
19. ZX10R - my present obsession, the '07 model. One day it'll be the world's lightest 10  ;-)
20. GPZ900R - yet another project bike, presently in bits awaiting the purchase of trick but cheap bits !
21. KLX 300 / KDX 200 - someone's bodged engine swap, a piece of crap I got given and subsequently gave away in turn

Cheers,
Brian

Well i ill try and remember  :icon_scratch:
1. first proper bike after scooters and used to race motorcross was a zxr400 screamer used it in the snow rain the lot loved it .

2. gsxr 600 srad x 2 god knows why i had 2 and they were the same colour  [rofl]

3. gsxr 750 k1 loved this bike had a head gasket problem so sold on.

4. Tl1000r this beast learnt me to wheelie 4th gear clutchless up shifting this resulted in 2 gearboxes and big bills then i hit cow shite and hit floor, wrote off (silky will vouch for this lol).

5. gsxr1000k3 this started the track day bug  fairings on ebay and done every decent uk track on this many times over big highside at mallory and she kept coming back for more. I remember my first day in novice group @ cadwell on racetec in pouring rain and john reynolds saying just follow my lines youll be amazed at the grip in the wet with these tyres followed him round hairpin got round barn he had gone and that was that [rofl] but i still had the bug

6. zx10r 2005 used to go to the isle of man 2007  :icon_scratch: cracking bike put a fair few miles on her before selling to a zx10r member.

7. zx10r 2007 purchased damaged from a zx10r member fairinged it up and used for around 4 months then sold on.

8. 2 bikes come in yard salvage over this time a ducati 1098 which i loved used for 2 weeks befor it was sold  :-( i will get one one day. Also a RC8 which i didnt really get on with.

9. zx636 c1h model 2006 brought really cheaply through a friend and got on really well with it even saw a snowy trackday at the little snetterton

10. i currently have a 2007 cbr1000rr fireblade that has 2300 miles and was purchased through ebay ( stupidly cheap)  :icon_thumright: that i get on so well with took me to the advanced group trackdaying and overtaking a couple of the racers !!.

11. nearly forgot our an400 burgman suzuki scooter our little parts delivery bike me and co worker daily commute to work nice and warm. SP2 flies past us on a dual carriageway i dont even let off right round the outside of him on big island fairings scraping centre stand gone and the loads of sparks . come off island he gives us the thumbs up and blasted past  [rofl] so now have a shaped exhaust can no centre stand and melted plastics .

Those Choppers are worth a mint now, I had one with the 3 gears on the crossbar and everything..while all my mates had the latest BMX's with Red tyres and Yellow Mag wheels, looked the bollox they did, while I struggled with my 3 geared Chopper over the local BMX track..thing weighed the same as a Ford Granada in comparison

'94 plate FZR600R 1st bike, crashed it twice, wrote it off the 3rd. Twat!
'99 plate FZS 600 Fazer. Paid 3100 brand new for it! Possibly the best bike ever as have fond memories of meeting the wife during ownership, taught me to ride properly, then took a step backwards and bought.....
'98 plate Thundercat. didn't gel with it. Too heavy and crashed that twice, hated the bike with a passion towards the end..
'98 plate CBR600F-W last of the steel frame jobs, good little machine, although a little bland.
'99 plate VTR1000 Firestorm, nice bike really, although had soft suspension and wrote that off too..TWAT.
'03 plate ZX 636 R B1H. Awesome little bike, hard as granite suspension and razor sharp handling, didn't keep it long enough though, as chopped it in for.....
'05 plate ZX 636 R C1H. This bike is where I started to ride properly for once, loads of shove for a 600 (636) ...
'07 plate ZX10R this is where it all went nuts...power and hairy-chested litre bike ownership, kept this for over 3 yrs..done countless trackdays and learnt to ride quicker..
'58 plate CBR1000RR..Sublime motorcycle, does everything for you, typical Honda basically..didn't really get under it's skin to really find out what it could do..missus hated it with a passion, so was told to buy..
'11 plate Aprilia RSV4..fucking awesome machine, the most raw and involving bike I've yet owned..I thought I knew sharp handling until now, V4 power that is proper fast and looks to die for...an 04 ZX10R is tame in comparrison... this one is a keeper.
