blimey you  could do it a bit cheaper then,i was paying that for a campsite when i done the pyrenees a few years back, I wouldn't mind staying in a hostel as long as it has 4 walls a roof and a bed I'm not worried!

are all the mountain roads around the alps good? because we will probably spend a day getting there then 5 days on the alps then head home, so i would go south first and work my way back up.

as i said i done a trip to the pyrenees a few years ago and absolutly loved it! 5 days with a constant smile on my face  :icon_thumright:
day 1 headed to la rochelle on the west coast, then south to pau, then through the pyrenees to andorra (wicked place) then to perpignan then home. 2000 mile round trip and one of the best weeks of my life  :hello2:
the only problem ive got is my best mate who i done the last one with is now in oz , so im supposed to be going with 2 other lads which 1 will let me down and the other one doesnt sound that interested! so even if i go on my own im bloody going

Try googling campanile! I've used them many time's but not in the last few years, they were clean and cheap. 90% of the one's we used you can get the bike right outside the room, there dotted all over France. I think theres a fair few in the Alps!

Tried to do this in June this year but as we approached the pass from the south side, the snow was still coming down heavy and made it impassable.

This photo was taken at the bottom, 5000' feet up later -2 and heavy snow in June  [wall]

Hopefully July would be better.

If you are interested, check out the road from Fondo SS238 to  Lana, we ended up on this road as we couldn't get to Stelvio, and we were amazed by it!!!  :headbang:

Did it twice in 2008, and 2009...both times mid September & had no snow  :icon_thumleft:

Worth paying the extra for a place to kip very close as the best times to run the twisty section is first thing, and last thing.

Will come back with some recommendations of other passes on ya way there if ya interested.
