Hmm, simple thread getting out of hand me thinks.

I'll tell ya a little story that started all this off.....

I do motorcycle sports rider training as part of my living.
To keep tabs on my victim student sometimes I have to wind on a bit when we become slightly split up by road circumstances.

Anyhoo, coming out of a town I opened up a bit ( about 20yds before the national speed limit sign).
Van parked facing away from me,
red flash,
camera in the back.
Hey presto, mug shot from the front of my nice black visor.
Great.
Two plodds in the front of said van (German cops are called Bulls btw, not that makes any difference) taking the number plates of any biker who activates the cam.
3 weeks later I receive my "digital portrait" and the fine in the post.

Now, it was only a 15 euro fine but feckin annoying none the less. This was most certainly not a case of setting up a camera for road safety.
If it was the cam would have been set up to catch people speeding into the town not going out.

I know all the static sites on the routes I use for the tours (theres only 2) so its this kind of sneaky, backhanded, unnecessary temporary money spinning bllx that I'd like to avoid.
The lads who have been on my tours will know that I always slow right down in towns and villages. Always.
So to say im pissed off at being done coming out of town would be an understatement.

In case you cant understand German, I was done for 56kph in a 50 limit  [wall]
Thats 34mph in a 30 folks. Hardly hard core stuff  [wall]
Now Im all for road safety but FFS!. It makes sense to protect yourselves from thieves dunnit?

To be clear - I have not stated I am a mod once.
I have not advocated using any item as a "shield".
There is nothing anywhere in this thread about your comment (yet again) about riding/filming/being a cock. You got on your soapbox about this on another thread recently (n30 anyone) and your comments weren't welcomed there either.
Everyone is aware of the consequences of riding stupidly and again this thread has NOTHING to do with that. The OP has simply asked which device will give him a chance of knowing where they might be and if it's working or not. Nothing more.

France is very similar to Germany and you only have to be slightly over the limit to get nicked. In saying that a friend in the Uk recently got nicked for 33 in 30 !. I did some research into the detectors available and couldn't find find one that i felt i could rely on.

Its also common in France to have speed traps just outside villages,  but you also have to remember they are also able to catch peeps entering the village from the other direction, so I'm not so sure your argument,  holds up about the safety / revenue issue, although we all know that revenue does play a major part. When in  France or the Uk, I'm just ultra careful to stick to the limits, entering, riding though and exiting villages, as you know, your bait in those places.

I'd go with robbosliding as far as save your money, and just take your chances and be careful where , when and how often you go over over the limit and refrain on your village exits, like you say you do riding though them.

Even if you beat the speed cams, they will get you eventually if you ride the road like a track, not that I'm suggesting you do, Wheeltrax, that's just a comment in general.

Clearly I have struck a nerve with someone :boxing: I'd like to calm things down a little, I come on here for some light hearted chat and information, not to feud with other members. Hammy, my reference to being a moderator is sarcasim, (yes the lowest form of wit!) in response to your unwelcome opinion of my views, you don't have to agree but lets not be rude. I have never suggested YOU have avocated these devices be used as a shield, merely these devices tend to foster this false sense of security with users. And re N30 I can't see anything I have contibuted that could be construded as anti, opinionated or other? Others that followed are a bit more to the point, each to their own dare I say. Re other driving offence issues I suggest that other offences are more widely prosecuted that a device won't help you with. I accept that some of your info has come from plod in one area, you would be unwise to assume that as gospel across the board as all forces operate independently. Radar guns and Vascar as dated as they are, are still in use in some areas. IMHO and mine only, my offer to the OP who I was respectfully trying to assist, is as much as the ideal device would be great, I don't think it exists. My opinion only but I would ask Sir that it is not disrespected. :occasion14: Handbags away, stepping down off soap box.
