Parking tickets
« on: June 13, 2010, 06:12:29 PM »

I know there are alot of people in the know here so

Here's the story,

I pull up In town the other day just to go to the cashpoint (in a car this is) I pull up on the side of the road on double yellows but I thought it's no big deal I'm right next to the ATM I'm only gonna be 20 secs.
So I do my thing and turn around to get back in the car and a traffic warden has taken a picture of the car and the tax disc.
Obviously I do the obligatory "I'm really sorry I've only been there (pointing to the cashpoint) 20secs and I'm going now" at which point the miserable wench says "tough **** you've got a ticket"
so I say "well it's not on the car" and I get a reply of "you'll get it in the post" so I drove off without her even written it.

Now, it's my understanding that they have to have a picture of your car with the parking ticket stuck on the windscreen for it to be legit and I drove off before she got chance to even write it!

I know I was in the wrong blah blah blah but what are the chances I get a ticket in the post?

Better off asking over on PB Fletch as Porkscratchin is on there and is a traffic cop.

Might pay to look at waiting and seeing, then dispute it as they then HAVE to allow you the early payment period EVEN if they go against you.
My argument would be along the lines that you pulled up because you thought you'd hit something - cat/dog/duck  :dontknow: and whilst you were checking they ticketed you.
ASAIK they HAVE to check the reason first BEFORE they can ticket it - sounds like she didn't get it last night or he lobbed it in the tradesmans entrance dry  [whistle]

i have had a couple of tickets in the last few years
bothwere wherei didn't know i was in the wrong

1.in the snow in the hills where you couldn't see the lines and loads of us parked to take kids sleighing and along came a ticket swine to charge us all  [wall]

2, in town where the sign for no [parking, it was a sunday 20 miles from home where there appeared to be load of parking available albeit it was permit only (it was ok the previous time i parked there a few years previous but had changed)  but there was no sigh and i looked after the ticket was issued to see a sign but facing the wrong way  [wall]

I complained about both but got no where

Was it a police traffic warden, or just a normal council contractor skivvy?

You can check your local authority to see who has the rights, as it may be that only a police traffic warden can issue a penalty for parking on a double yellow.

Personally i think your car had broken down, and youg ot it fixed at the roadside while still there, hence no parking ticket issued on the screen. In edinburgh they must have the photo with the parking ticket on the vehicle.

Hi. The law changed two years ago so yes the bugger can post the notice but you should insist of the photo and also check the notice in detail. There are a lot of simple errors they can make which render it invalid.   . Unless you choose to just pay em! Good luck x :-P
