Sump removal??
« on: February 12, 2010, 10:54:10 PM »

Having had an off at Rockingham at the end of last year & holed my engine casings(fukc they're expensive),
should I drop the sump to check there's no alloy shards/bits of casing in there to damage my engine??

Have already changed oil & filter once since the off,but not been out on the road, only pretending in me garage :emb:

Whats the considered opinion??

unless it's big chunks it wont settle in the sump,it'll just suspend in the oil and get filtered out.

but it aint a big job to remove it,just make sure yyou pu a fresh seal on.

Scooby,do you mean the oil filter will stop any particles damaging the engine?
If so can't I just change the oil + filter?,or would you always drop the sump after an 'off'?
Cheers Chris

the filter should catch any bits of debris, when you had the casings off did it look like there  was a lot of shit in there? if not then i would think it will be fine. :icon_thumleft:

Guys, having replaced original with a now shiny new arrow system;on firing her up I noticed she's very noisy almost slappy at the bottom of the engine, more so than b/4..
This made me think that some shit had got thru..
Warmed her up & slappy noise still there.. :icon_scratch:
Is it me? & what should I look out 4 if it is damaged??
Cheers nd fingers crossed :-/

well in my case everything was worn but it dose`nt take much for the cam chain to start rattling that was the first thing i noticed , if its only a rattle i`d take the sump of and give it a clean, also pull off the oil pick up and wash it out, my pick up was full of bits of metal and silicone. (and this is the first time its been stripped)
