if you stamp numbers on to say a frame or engine the impreshion goes deep . so even tho you can rub  away on top the number it is still possible to trace with an x-ray .

same as if you wright on a pad and can still see the number on the sheet underneath

this is something im familiar with as i`v bought a lot of salvage bikes both from breakers and straight from insurance company's ,
i`v nevr seen engine numbers removed but have had plenty of bikes with frame numbers with xxxx or removed and sometimes one or two digits scrubbed out.

i would be careful though as there`s loads of nicked bikes floating about with both numbers removed, and there being used as track bikes.
If the engine number is missing stay clear!!!

regards the x-ray who is really gonna go to all the trouble?? the police certainly wont they dont give a fuck about bikes.

Can anyone get a bike x-rayed?

Looking at getting another track toy but got no numbers on frame or engine, i see loads on ebay for sale saying track use only just wondered if there was anyway that it could be checked.

Ive also read about some sort of acid that you can put on numbers and it brings them back?

look mate why buy something that may be stolen  :dontknow: when there's 1000s of legal bikes out ther . its not worth all the trouble.

acid test is real cos Ive had one of my bikes done and i watched them do it . the acid takes the metal down and the number under shows up .

and the police do x-ray bikes cars . the ringing business is worth billions every year .

The only 1 way i can think of is stolen bike they get back but the id has already been taken off.

Like when they do it and the car/bike get put back on a q plate.
