Anyone thinking of getting in Cycling....read this first.
« on: August 07, 2009, 01:32:53 PM »

Hey guys & gals,

As you know, Andy J and myself have over the past 6 months been getting quite into cycling and specifically Moutain Biking.   Not always at the same time, as Andy is a lot more dedicated than I am at the moment.  However, we have both invested a lot of time and money into this hobby. And, we are perhaps slightly more fortunate than others and can spend a little more to get quality kit.

But as we all know, you can get some very cheap bikes from all sorts of places now, like Asda, Tesco etc. So.... before you think you can get into biking on a shoe string and get value for money, it may be worth reading the below article.

The best way to get bikes & gear cheap legally is http://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/home,intro.htm

If you're a higher rate tax payer it works out at a 48% discount, or 40% for std rate payers, plus as you pay it off over the year from your wages, it's effectively an interest free loan as well.

If your employer doesn't take part in the scheme then give them some grief as it's not as if costs them anything to offer it.

I had a mountain bike years ago I used to do about 100 miles a month (maybe I should start again)
