Only worth buying Snap On if you're gonna be using it on a very regular basis.

It depends what make of chain you are using. I tried my standard rivett machine on a Tsuabki chain and it didn't work. The chain had a solid pin and needed a proffesional tool which grips the rivett and burrs the rivett over when the end of the machine is wacked with a hammer.

I got sick of breaking tools whenever I changed chains and ended up getting a DID KM500 tool - http://www.bandcexpress.co.uk/cgi-bin/bc_page.pl?cat=CH-ACC-TOOLS excellent bit of kit  :icon_thumright:

Thanks guys, unfortunately it's a finance decesion, third baby on the way so I need to minimise my expenses, hence Snap on it's on account and good quality, but I have decided not to get one now, rather pay some one close by to do it.

I got the DID tool and stripped the thread getting an old chain off, so I bought a Dremel, it's so easy to get a chain off now I don't know why I didn't get one sooner.  I use an Ebay cheapie to put the new chain on, as long as the pin is hollow it doesn't take much to mushroom it.

The Whale is by far the best tool for putting together solid master links. It even makes it look like all the other rivets. YOuw ill still require a tool for pushing the plates together though before you can peen the edges over with the whale though.

:iamwithstupid:  The Whale tool is a great bit of kit...........heavy duty, well made and almost indestructable......Demon Tweeks sell 'em......You can squeeze the plates together with a minature vice or decent mole grips.
