Hi Im new here
« on: April 20, 2009, 01:54:42 PM »

Hi my names Peter and im a design engineer from near gatwick.
I am buying a new zx10r but i wanted to ask a few questions if thats ok.
I have looked through your forum and have founf loads of really good info.
I will be using the bike for my daily commute of 30miles round trip. I have been doing it on a cbr900 and it has served me well.
My question is will this bike be reliable enough? My other thought are how is its wet weather handeling?
I rode the blade rain, snow and sun and would like to do that with this bike.

I love the looks and feel of the zx10r and definetly want one but any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

reliability is fine,  I have ridden and neglected mine so much its not funny and still it runs beautifully.the 15 miles to your work should just about warm up the bike before you have to get off(4 minutes according to kawasaki).  As for wet weather thats something else, kinda depends on your tire, i have an 05 and when i first got it i could barely keep it in a streight line in the rain when i first got it, a change of tires made that particular issue go away.

Hi pete. Well you can ride any bike in all weathers, whether or not you want to ride a nutcase machine in the snow and ice is your call. As long as you ride it care no doubt like your 900 your'l have no worries. The zx10r is a comfy ride for me and I'm 6'4 so can get cramped on r1's etc but then I like being crunched up. The zx10r's are an aggresive bike which is why I and others have brought them. To my point, if you want a boring drive to work buy a GS500 or an ER500. If you want to smile and no the reason we all like bikes, get a ninja 10. I rode mine for around 3 hours non stop and my bum was fine. If I go on my mrs' k8 600 I cant ride it for longer than 40 mins as my arms feel like their twisting the wrong way and I personaly dont think the seat was built with men in mind hahah.  :glasses9: :whip2:

thanks for the replies guys i was thinlking that the tyres my have been an issue so ill run the bike in on the new tyres and get some nice sticky ones for when the im ready to put all the power down.
I am alos 6'4 but love scrunching myself up and i also tried the r1 which i found painful as soon as i pulled away. The main reason i want a zx10 is because i have owned over 30 bikes and none of them have been fast enough or given me that buzz. Although the blade does come close and is a fantastic bike.  I really dont want to get a commuter bike as im only 23 and although i feel like an old fart i dont want to look like one lol.

can somenone give me there opinion on pillion comfort as my wife does like to go for rides ( not very often) but when i had a daytona she was very displeased with the ride and she was in tears after a couple of miles. Its not a big thing for me but i dont want to mislead her and her then be in pain.

Thanks guys what a great forum

Pillion confort is not exactly a feature of the 10r, also make sure that you get a triboseat cover cause the seats are as slick as oil and you will get many hjeadbuts to the back of the helmet on breaking otherwise.  That being said i have travelled all over europe with my missus ont he back and she hasnt complained that much about it, nmore me being pissed off with the headbuts

haha pillion comfort on any sports bike.........mmmmmm now your asking for miracles. Again my mrs is almost 6ft and sits on the back of th 07 zx10r ok, I think any longer than 40 mins and she'll start beating me, esp at 160+. She says she still prefers 99R1 as easier seating. She hates her k8600 even compared to the 10r. But after all shes a speedfreak and nutcase like me so all worth it in the end.

If you thought the R1 hurt you to ride because you were cramped...the 10'r does feel like a bigger or longer bike at least so is easier and the bars are more upright so not so hung over on your wrists. I've had a few kwaka's before so is a more natural position for me. Oh and the power from a blade or 99r1's to these is immense. A whole new dimmension haha. Never look back, loving my black monster.........does that sound to UNPC??? lol :dontknow:

i have just bought a new zx10 and can say that below 6000rpm it is pretty docile and tractable, wet weather riding should be no problem.
i also have a 04 which i bought new and have found the 09 to be more refined and comfortable for everyday transport, as well as being easier to ride quick.
i love it!

Hi Buddy, I have recently purchased an 08 10-R and its an awesome bike to ride and the comfort is good. I done 150 in one go the weekend and my arse still feels normal. the wife won't even attempt to go on the back as she says the seat don't look great, some would say that is a bonus. Overall great bike had no problems in the rain either. Enjoy the bike  :headbang:

ZXR JOhn ya mine to but she loves the thrill of the back still. K8 600 as a first bike I'm impressed. Nothing better than a hot girl in charge of a mean machine. She can f'k off if she's driving mine though hahahahah!!!!!!!!!!! :boxing:

Ooops

i take my missus on the back of my 04 lol..... got to admit not the easiest thing to ride 2 up but not too bad either.... just gentler on acceleration and braking and obviously dont crank it over as far...

but she loves it - we only go for short blasts together - up to an hour or so! but she can't get enough!!

also i commute 50m a day every day on my bike in Cumbria and it changed my boring slow traffic 40min journey into a 15min blast so i arrive at work full of smiles....

bloody hard work riding home after the gym though if the missus has the car lol
