knee down with a twist.
« on: April 04, 2009, 10:33:32 AM »

Well guys/gals after years of biking (i.e 15) i have finally managed it but with a twist. I have suffered with dogy hips where i cant spread my legs wide like normal people with out some discomfort and a little pain and trying to get my legs to do this attempting knee downs is a night mere.
I am however with the backing of my mates a pretty mad rider with lets just say Kahooonas bigger than what they should be, i some times wonder how im alive but have had great fun all the way. My tyres are scrubbed in all the way to the edges where as my mates who can hang off and get knees down have still got a 1cm chicken strips left on them.
My brother and i went out for our usual ride yesterday and with the weather being so good and good vibes in the blood for my ACDC concert in 10 days i felt a bit of pain to stop him taking the piss and saying you can do it, you will be amazed how much a bike can lean, i said i know how far they go ive got no more fu**ing tread left lol.  But on a roundabout a few miles from newquay i finally went for it and i believe to this moment my bike slid for a good second before i some how managed to bounce it back up onto its tyres and im thinking this becausenot only did i get my knee down but also the top of my boot, the ankle support, the toe sliders and most of all that im chuffed about is my pegs hero blob :icon_thumleft:. a bit dubious of trying again , what do you think?

Phew, that sounds like a close one there fella.

I never had a problem getting to the edge of the tyres and didn't 'knee down' until last year ..........  if you are on the edge of the tyre and try to then get your knee down it will end in tears as there's no tyre left.

The body position is very different  for knee down antics and it gives you no more speed etc well certainly none  on the road so I'd just carry on withwhat you did before which is probably more in control and safer + faster anyhow

kd is nothing to do with lean angle really,it's all about body position.i've seen people virtually upright dragging thier knee on ttrack, but i do chuckle to myself going past them on the outside with my knee no-where near. :icon_thumleft:

moral of the story,KD happens for a reason, not because you can hang off like a monkey

Thanks for advise peeps. so morale of the story is for the people that can hang off like monkeys, crack on and for people like me that find it hard and end up getting the bike so low that the pegs scrape then give it up.  Well at least
ive got me hero blobs as a reminder. :headbang:
