Enduro Race?
« on: March 15, 2009, 10:09:22 PM »

Anyone race Enduro?

Thinking of having a go but it'll be down to cost.
Going to start my lad at trials so may just join in there as it is easy to get started and is pretty cheap bike sport, but really fancy Enduro.
Any tips/advice more than welcome.   :icon_thumright:

Yep,
Got  a few good contacts over the weekend, there is a lot going on for the kids round here now. Trying to pick him up a suitable bike at the moment as he has outgrown his twist n go, but i think I'll try to steer him into trials.
Gonna make sure he doesn't start off the way I did, playing truant and scrambling about in fields.
Cheers.  :icon_thumright:

no i agree do it right, not sure about the trails but school boy mx is ace, always very friendly not like the dads who take there kids football on a sunday and scream at them for not doing well.
The only down side to trails is the tight fitting Lycra.  [whistle]

Spot on about the footy, 2 older sons went down that road. 8 years spending every sunday listening to hung over parents tearing strips off their kids. Weird.
Trying to pick up a junior bike at the moment, that is the biggest problem, junior trials bikes are like hens teeth second hand.

My g irls have a little crf50 3 speed - its mental, proper wheelies when you sit on the tail
They love it but its just for fun and skills lerning at the moment. The eldest wants a mini-moto, leathers the lot but that is daft money to be serious.
Best bet John is to go to a few meets and ask who is moving up an if they are shifting the bikes on that way. The girls bike came direct from the Honda offroad experience thing they do at the NEC. Mate used to run it for Honda and they paid him off in Bikes B-)

Has it got manual gears & clutch Hammy, how are they getting on with it?
That's where I'm struggling, to find a decent junior trials bike that isn't twist n go. I've heard there are a couple of decent off road dealers in the Newcastle area, not too far to travel. Private sales are not coming up with much.
Too be honest the more people I talk to the more  I think I might be better getting him into a MX club.
Lots to choose from up here now as plod and the councils have realised that to stop kids tearing about where they like on bikes they have to allow more clubs to start up.
Gonna give it a couple of more weeks then go down the mx route.  :icon_thumright:

It is twist and go no clutch with the 3 speed gearbox so they have to change gear - thats when the wheely fun starts [rofl]

That would be funny, got a mental picture of a nippers bulging eyeballs as the bike soars skyward, feet of the pegs, screaming for mum.  [rofl]
Sounds like a good stepping stone though, gears and no clutch.  :icon_thumright:

A test ride for safety reasons I'm sure. I can't even get my lad's 50 to pull away when I'm sat on it, never mind wheelie.

65cc KTM will do the trick I reckon.

Hi John.

I race enduro's regularly once a month for the last year and it's really good fun. Some of the clubs do have a youth series (SCEC). Also, I marshal at our local club's trials and get to watch the kids on the trial bikes - frikken amazing to see the bike control these kids learn. How old are your kids?

Hi,
He is almost 9.
2 older lads are no longer into bikes.
Little one has been using a 50cc twist & go but needs to move up now as it is way too small and getting a bit boring for him.
The info I got from the SACU was Enduro started at 16, with a few taster hare & hound sessions through the season.
Trials is a great way for the kids to start though. Teaches loads about balance & control, the speed can come later.
