Id always have a Peugeot over anything German. Far superior build quality!

No, mainly Mercs guilty of REALLY poor build quality. Start to fall to bits after about 3 years!

Agree about Renault. Peugeot is a different matter. Had a 406 estate, 1.8 petrol for 6 years. Serviced it twice in that time, the worst, and only thing that went wrong with it was needed a new battery. Would do near 40 mpg and 120 mph. Still drove like new when i sold it. Smooth, quiet and comfortable. Will NEVER rust. What more do you want?

You thought about picking up an RX8, they can be had for next to nothing these days and are superb fun. The new R3 is even better and can be picked up for around 18k new from what Ive read. Ive had an rx8 231 for nearly 3 years now and I love it, revs to 9500rpm, gets 4 adults in no probs and is so well balanced its amazing. Take one for a spin you wont be dissapointed. The only downsides are that its a little thirsty I average about 17-19mpg most of the time(done about 30k in now) but Ive had 25mpg once I think.....haha. I dont drive it like a granny and hearing the beep will egg you on more. As for horror stories no more than any other car and dotn worry about the supposedly high oil use, Ive known S2000s and audis use more....about a litre per thousand miles....bonus is its meant to burn it.

Its not the fastest car in the world but it matched the old M3 round the top gear test track with a good 100bhp deficit.

Oh I have had it drop as low as 8mpg on a track day and 12.5mpg in the winter on short trips. Last tank delivered 20mpg which was good for this time of year. I like the beep that starts at 8500rpm and continues to the limiter @9300-9500ish

Tax is 220 notes(on an 04 plate) so 4 tanks of fuel, but I would imagine most of these other cars are in the high bracket as well.

Its juicy to run but servicng is cheap for a sports car 400 for the biggy, no cambelt to worry about etc. When I dont drive it for a couple of weeks I think about getting rid because of the cost but then on drive out has you hooked again...it sounds like a bike and its a silky smooth engine.
