dyno,s
« on: January 13, 2009, 05:23:54 PM »

called in at my local dealer today just for a chat more than anything ( cause i,l do anything so long as its not work related) i was talking about getting new tyres etc on the bike a power commander and then getting it dyno,ed. they reccommended that i get it dynoed before i fit the new tyres as a dyno can shag a back tyre pretty badly  is this true??? there pretty good at my local dealer so i cant see why they,d lie.

Think it's a bit of an urban myth  :tongue3: I've had quite a few bikes dyno'd on different dyno's and never had a problem

Maybe it depends on the dyno  :dontknow:

I haven't got a clue as i've never had anything dyno'd but i have heard that before also so there may be some truth in it.

If it is a myth or not it doesn't really matter - just make sure you dyno it before fitting the tyres, that's what i'd do. Better to be safe than sorry  :icon_thumright:

I don't see why it'd ruin tyres, yes there's wear but not that I've seen as a problem on mine  :dontknow:

yes & no on that, done loads of dyno work myself on various bikes then when i dyno`d my own bike just as the bike hit full chat the back tyre dumped all the air in one go, it went with a bang but pumped tyre back up and it was fine for 3 more runs than out the blue it did it again  :dontknow:

on a normal bike on a normal dyno it`ll be fine with a few runs but if you require hours of dyno time it`ll square it off, or if you have a turbo`d bike they tend to spin up a bit.

Dynos don't shag tyres. Bad operators that don't know where and how to set the bike up for a run damage tyres. Im glad to say that its a very rare thing these days.
If your tyre is within legal limits for the road then there is no reason why you shouldnt run it on the dyno.
I have run bikes at over 700 BHP with no major damage, the bigest problem is getting to much heat in the rubber and that tends to make the tyre look like its had a good track day.
I have seen tyres deflate on the dyno and also on top speed runs, think about how much centrifugal force is acting on the valve in your wheel. If you plan on doing high speed runs or have had a tyre go down for no reason then it may well be the valve, change it for one of the 90 degree ones.
