Bunny Hops?
« on: July 27, 2008, 12:25:44 AM »

Why do rabbits leap over white lines?????

Had the most tremendous hoon today, 160 miles of bends, A71-A70- A72- A701 to Moffat, A708 St. Mary's Loch & Yarrow Valley to Selkirk, A72 to Peebles, then home via Edinburgh. Anyway, I swear I must have seen about a dozen rabbits cross the roads I was on, and every time they came up to the white lines or cats eyes, the little beggers leap over them as if they were fences.  :icon_scratch:  Someone out there must know.  :icon_scratch:

Anyway, one of the best routes for wearing out the sides of your tyres, any guys from geordieland ain't that far away, should give it a try if you've not already done so. Can be busy with plod on bikes though. Couple of unmarked pans and a sportsbike were doing the rounds last year.
The whole of Scotland is one big track really, if only the weather was as good as the roads.  :icon_thumright:

Anyone comes up with the answer to the bunny question wins a night out with my mother-in-law.  [rofl]

I am just guessing but I suspect that once upon a time a rabbit walked through the line, and it was freshly painted. The rabbit was then easily tracked by a hungry scittish tennant farmer, caught and eaten. Now you know what rabbits are like, this piece of invaluable information spread like myxomatosis and now all rabbits in Scotland avoid the white lines, just to be safe.
Until now many of you thought rabbits were relatively unintelligent, but they are not, and have a thriving Health and safety network, which helps them stay alive in record numbers, this fact may also account for the low sales in "Rabbit size" high vis vests, and Rabbit headbeacons, and of course explains why rabbits make no noise......well until they are in mortal danger...
hope this helps.

I had one jump through my back wheel on the edinburgh to lanark road, the general advice on a bike is if one is inthe middle of the road head streight for it as it will get outta the way on time, this one jumped outta the way then back thru the back wheel, i pretty much supermaned off the bike and slid into a field, the bike also went onto the grass so there was no real massive amount of damage to me or the the bike but the rabbit wsa f**ked blood everywhere
