ANPR cameras ?
« on: August 14, 2011, 09:01:19 PM »

As I mentioned in a previous thread, I want to MOT the 10 in the Portsmouth area.
I intend bringing the bike into Portsmouth on the Santander ferry because its been sitting in my house for the last year with a SORN. Does anyone know if they have ANPR cameras in the port area ? I will have the bike already booked in for the test, and know that if you can prove you're going for the test you should be ok, but don't really want the hassle of being "pulled".

Thanks, in advance, for any info.

As long as the bikes insured and the mot has been pre booked, your covered to ride it to and from the Mot test station. If you get pulled they can check, they certainly can't 165 you ( take bike away)  for no road tax or mot, they can only do that if you have no insurance or driving licence.

Would have thought if you were pulled and having to deal with it, would be less hassle, and cost, than bringing the bike from Spain on a trailer.

I'd see if someone could meet you at the ferry with a trailer/van, for peace of mind.

ANPR cameras are mainly used to pick out vehicles with flagged markers held against the VRM relating to things of interest to the police. They are not usually used to trigger common run of the mill stuff like expired tax or MOT. Besides many normal police cars are equipped with ANPR now so I would'nt be area specific as they are many and mobile. That alone should'ny cause you a problem, especially as you are booked in. Now if you a drug dealer in exile that might be a different matter.......

No, not a drug dealer or anything else devious / underhand !  [naughty]

Think I'll go with what I planned, ie insure bike and pre book mot.

Thanks for info.
