I've got an S1000RR. Here's my thoughts...
I bought mine May last year and have done the Alps, the B500, Cartegena and Brands GP on it. I love it, personally. The power levels are incredible but it's a lovely comfortable bike to ride and does everything you'd want it to do. I've done 800 mile days in comfort and ridden 5 hours in the rain over Col de L'Iseran.
One thing no one talks about on forums is the power modes. The usual thing people say is "yeah I just keep it in Slick", but for us normal riders having something like the 'rain' mode when you're knackered, it's slippy and you're a long way from home can be a godsend.
On track it's perfect. I've had no problems with the traction control kicking in or anything even close to it. For 95% of trackday riders on a dry track the electronics will be totally unintrusive. Only issue I've had HAS been with the gearbox when ridden hard - If you're stomping down the gears on track it can hit terrifying false neutrals. Speaking of neutral, it can be a bugger to find from 2nd at lights. Nothing like as good as my ZX-6R.
Should you buy one? On balance, yes. It goes through tyres (obviously) and it's not the new bike on the block anymore, but it's built for real-sized humans, it's comfortable, it'll be better than you are (unless you race BSB) and I happen to really really love mine.
