we've got miles and miles of dual carriageway/motorway with 40 camera's on

it's built but holding the speed back whilst the finishing touches are added...... bit of a nightmare really but the cones and cameras are a dead giveaway to keep the speed down around here

that'll be for the benefit of all the highway workers that have to risk their lives working on live roads. speed limits there for a reason.  [naughty]

Boo the A419 at Swindon has had roadworks on the new bypass for over a year. ALL the workforce have finished by 6pm and the cones are moved back onto the hard shoulder but the speed limits and speed camera erected there are still active

yes, totally agree with you there fella  :icon_thumright:

However, there are now miles of carriageway finished and still 40 limits for all of it, I feel it's because the amintenance isn't handed over for the roads until the project is complete so to keept he 40 saves the contractors from repair on the whole if you know what I mean

I'm not gonna start an argument and certainly don't mean to (well not much)

But shouldn't once be enough to think....slow down enough to not attract attention!

I've been done more than most (3 x speeding bans for 100+, 1 x 6 month ban for 12+ points and about 6 x 3 points).  Currently only have 3 points for an infringment of highway code (long story) and I know make sure, where possible I stay well under 35 on my speedo round town.  Single lane or bigger...I don't risk it.  Certainly not in areas I don't know!

You can't fucking whinge, cause we know what we are doing at the time...so if we get caught.  fair cop guv'!

I agree in some areas speed limits don't fit the conditions or area but hey...until they change em....thats what they are!

My brother told me off the other day for doing 50 outside his house, as "...there could be kids playing".  I said, but its a 50 limit bro...he said "Well not if I had my way"....and he is currently campaigning for the road to be changed to 30!  Whilst he may be right that the road should be slowed down, I technically ain't doing anything wrong by doing the limit am I?  Same applies in reverse!

out of interest what happens to all the points that you had on your licence after a ban runs out?? do you get a new clean licence or leave some of them on?  I personally have a clean licence but thats only because i left the uk before the deluge of speed cameras

remember Andy it's the maximum with only a minimum on motorways of 30 from what I recall. If you're travelling at 50 and it's inapprpriate for the conditions i.e. kids playing then you can still be fined, not for breaking the speed limit but for travelling at a speed inappropriate for the conditions

Completely agree that the limit in force is the limit in force and whilst it can be irritating it's still in force and there are no excuses  :icon_thumright:

a good whinge helps a little though doesn;t it  ;-)

Oh stop being so bloody agreeable Mr J!

There is a difference between driving to conditions and the fact that the speed limit doesn't meet the needs of the neighbourhood....to use your example Andy. if I'm doing 30 down my road and a kid steeps out and he dies....do I get done for speeding?  Nope....could I be done for Inappropriate Speed for Conditions (Which is seen as I Excess Speed)....doubtful!  As its a freak incident...  If my speed is lower through choice and decide to drive at 25 thats more choice that conditions.

Wasn't really my point....my point is that if the road is deemed to be a 50 zone and you get told its too fast by someone....then doesn't mean your required to lower you speed limit.  If however, (to agree with you) that the weather conditions or other factors, such as increased traffic and it therefore becomes unsafe to do so then yes you should be driving slower!

Comparing Apples with Oranges.

To answer you question Truescot...yes after 12+ points you get a cleaner licence.  However you have TT99 endorsement which shows you have been disqualed due to 12 or more points.  3 yrs later that goes, and bang clean licence.  personally, I reckon in a lot of cases(based on extensive experience) it would be easier to take a ban than points 6 or 9 points.  But as we know, that can have its disadvantages too for some people.

 [whistle]     [rofl]

[Laws HA 1835 sect 72 & RTA 1988 sect 34]

146
Adapt your driving to the appropriate type and condition of road you are on.

In particular

do not treat speed limits as a target. It is often not appropriate or safe to drive at the maximum speed limit  take the road and traffic conditions into account. Be prepared for unexpected or difficult situations, for example, the road being blocked beyond a blind bend. Be prepared to adjust your speed as a precaution

where there are junctions, be prepared for road users emerging

in side roads and country lanes look out for unmarked junctions where nobody has priority

be prepared to stop at traffic control systems, road works, pedestrian crossings or traffic lights as necessary

try to anticipate what pedestrians and cyclists might do. If pedestrians, particularly children, are looking the other way, they may step out into the road without seeing you

anyhow I'm bored now and it's appropriate to ensure that your speed matches the conditions  :icon_thumright:

Have you learned your lesson from all of your fines yet then  ;-)

Seriously though it can be any of us anytime and it's nice to moan although the reality is that it's a clear law and if you get caught breaking it then that's the known and accepted punishment  ;-)

I think you'll find thats under the "General Advice" which means its not an offence to ignore!   :tongue3:

I ain't learned jack shit...cause I don't believe in establishment or the law....f**k them all...down with the bourgeoisie!

I speed...cause I can...and sometimes...cause I know its wrong!  Bit like smoking dope when ya younger...half the buzz is cause you know its naughty!

My point is don't moan about it when ya get caught...better to regret the things you do, than the things you didn't!
