ok so who had one of these Fs1E
« on: November 07, 2008, 12:26:09 PM »

it sends a chill down my spine, twas the bike to have when 50cc bikes with pedals were all the rage in the late 70's and early 80's.

In those days every lad wanted one from what I recall and I had one and loved it  :icon_thumright:

Happy Days  :icon_thumright:

i recall back then that it was tassled leathers and white socks tucked over boots  :headbang:

There was no brembo, carbon, race tyres, braided lines, race pads and all the bollocks we have today just the odd race pipe and riding  :headbang:

Mine was like a burnt orange colour (metallic brown as my brother used to call it)

I even remember the reg LNU188P

It had a seat from a RD200 for extra comfort (and weight)

Had a white one 1978 R reg i think it was. Bored out to 60cc with a fresco exhaust, rearset gears and back brake and drop handlebars lol. Could get 58mph on a slight downhill tanked out. Sigh they were such good times. Seem to remember the gear selector splines were knackered and i clamped some mole grips on so i could still ride it. Remember a car coming round a bend with his main beam on blinding me for a moment and next thing i was up to me elbows in mud in a field pmsl.

Friends had the Fs1e and the Suzuki AP50 but I went down the italian route Gilera touring to play on when 13 then at the happy age of 16 a nice red Gilera Trials 50. Nearly 30 years on and I still have it buried in a shed collecting rust and spiders. Thought about rebuilding it last year just for a laugh. Exhaust kept your leg warm but guard was like a cheese grater when foot slipped of kickstart. Managed to find some photos for those to young to have a clue what bike I'm on about.  :icon_thumright:

I recall those 50's getting into top gear just pulling across a carriageway  [rofl] [rofl] [rofl]

Although I had an FS1E that was when I was 15 and ahem rode it around pre-licence  [whistle] well now and then. When I was 16 I ended up on these beauties

You don't mate. I had an AR125; it was reliable however the handlebars were held on using a serrated edge and if you fell off and the handlebars got hit, it became a nightmare to keep them in one place safely. Also for tuning there were very few decent pipes to put on them - I ended up with a Giannelli race system on mine plus jetting etc. Ultimately not as quick as an RD125 or 125 gamma.

I had an ss50 in the same colour when I was 16. It was considerably slower than my mates fs1e which wasn't as quick as another mates AP50. Managed an indicated 49mph down a very steep hill near Caterham before seizing. Another time the piston rings started sticking making a slow bike even slower - got overtaken by a cyclist going up the hill to Crystal Palace - have over compensating for the embarrasment ever since :-P
