winter is here, is riding season over?
« on: October 28, 2008, 07:30:52 PM »

So.... on the way back from work (in a car) had to drive throught the snow. Temperature outside just above 0, +1C exactly. Snow on the roads didnt realy melt and i was just wondering..... is riding season over?  :crybaby2: I dont mind riding in wet, cold even but on ice? Is it time to put The Beast on stands and forget about it for a while?
 :-(

Nope, ride it all year around, was out on the 6 last year in the snow, been through 4' deep floods.

Dress for the occasion and get out there.

But Ian your legs aren't long enough to get wet in the floods.... ;-)

Used to ride all through the year a long time back but have to say if I have a choice I'd rather not as I don't enjoy it

hate riding in the winter, i dont find it enjoyable at all, so mines starting the hibernation period, i,l start it up and give it a short run every now and then but its basically off the road till about march.then its new tyres and a 4000 mile service.

Drove home Tuesday night in a thick snow shower and thought that my road riding finished now till spring  :crybaby2: :crybaby2:

But not to worry as its time to get the old XR400R and have some off road fun, even better if it snows as its a great laugh :hello2:

Bad news is i've booked a trackday this saturday  fingers crossed

It's a great (or at least another) learning experience riding through winter. Bike preperation, personal (ie heated gloves) preperation, the low setting sun, getting used to warm cozy/dozy drivers, dodgy road conditions. I hate being frozen (hence the gloves) but it's fun being out there..especially when you see another poor sap, sorry, biker, coming the other way. The 'nod' seems all the more expected/given.
The 10R will only go away once there is the threat of salt on the roads...at which point the KTM SuperDuke will become the defacto standard for a while.

Get out there and enjoy it. Cold is for wimps!
