health update...
« on: September 22, 2008, 12:00:44 PM »

Well here goes, the latest news,...

1.. I had my third operation to re route the nerves after it was obvious that C5 was the main nerve controlling my bicep, deltoids and scapular muscles was ripped out of my neck, never to work again...
2.  However prior to the operation it seems that nerves C6, partially damaged and C7...okay, also send some signlas to my biceps and these are trying to take over the operation of it.  it is slow work becuase my brain is still not clear about using those nerves to move my arm....the big problem is other muscles try to take over and I have to be very careful how I train the bicep....i have to lay my arm completely flat on a bench or table with the whole of my arm in contact, then the only muscle that can move my arm is the bicep, it started to move my arm like this about a week ago and is getting better all the time, tiny amounts but better every day...
3. The operation 7 weeks ago seems to have been succesful as i have been getting lightning bolts in my deltoids and that means the nerves that have been re routed from other muscles are neraly at the end of their destination...they grow at 1 mm a day.
4.  I have a test in a week or so to see if they are actually at the end of their travel...
5. If they are then its time to start more and more physio, it will take up to a year to see any real movement in deltoids and scapular muscles but its looking good.

and me well I am feeling tons better back at work full time and actually thinking of riding again...but not as much as I did just the odd track day and a few rides around the country side in the summer...

I wont get any compensation for another year but thats not at all important, I dont really need the money but more always helps

Nice mate, sounds like you are on the road to recovery. As Andy says, small recoveries but it all adds up  :icon_thumright:
