I raced and trackday'd ZX6RRs for three years, the 04 M1H version of the B1 ZX6R.

Good bikes, bulletproof, crash well and good fun. No patch on the 10 for fun though, and my friend of equal talent used to absolutely murder me on his 05 CBR600RR.

Very good bikes Darren. The only downside to a B1/B2 is no slipper clutch with is sorely missed on track and the same poor master cylinder as the 04/05 10R. If you get a M1/K1 a slipper comes as standard but is only 599cc. Or go for a higher priced C1/C6 636 and get a slipper as standard.

..... and the same poor master cylinder as the 04/05 10R. ......
I cannot say I ever had an issue with the M1/B1 brakes, even whilst racing. Standard M/Cyl, calipers, even OEM Kwak pads. Used braided lines though.

My 06 10R on the other hand is woeful, lever back to the bar within 3 laps.

Fit a Brembo...transformed my bike overnight....I went for a 19x18 so I had some play as I like riding with my finger covering the brake....but most say 19x20 is fab.

Get on 'de Bay and find yourself one....actually....GRNINJA I think can get a good price on Brembo's.

I also went for Goodridge lines too....

You got a good one then. I'd challenge you to fit a Brembo, Magura, PVM or similar 19mm Master cylinder to it and then tell me it didnt make a vast improvement. I know you dont have it anymore though.

You may well be right, or maybe I just rode it like a complete jessie  :-/

I have a Brembo 19x20 for the 10, just need to fit it. Anyone know a good place to get pressure brake light switches for both the Brembo, and the stock rear m/cyl that is on rearsets with no switch mounting?

To the OP, sorry for hi-jacking your thread.

The difference between the braking performance is down to the thinner pistons in the ten's calipers, even though from the outside they look the same and have same mastercylinder as 6r b1h's. only diff from 04/05- 06/07 ten is the colour. kawi put radial m/c on 06/07 to help problem by moving more fluid...b1h calipers have similar thickness pistons as new type nissin calipers fitted to 07/08 zx6r & zzr1440. now also those nissins come in silver on new z1000 which have same m/c as 06/07 ten but no complaints from them as its the calipers which make all the difference....
Have had all three types of calipers in my hand and fitted to my bikes so this isn't a 'what i've heard' kind of blurb...
Saving weight by thinner pistons but  heat up faster and transfer more heat to fluid = fade. i think kawi realised after they ordered thousands of calipers from tocrapico and after testing noted problem thats why oe ten pads have radiator plates on back of them like ebc HH's to help disperse heat whereas oe b1h pads don't (obv not needed)
heavier weight and higher speeds compound the problem.

just my blurb anyway.....

Tony,

Enlightening, and very interesting reading. I am left puzzled however, if caliper pistons are essentially the root cause (which I can completely appreciate), why would a Brembo m/cyl make so much difference - as others lead me to believe?

It sounds like ZZR1400 calipers may be a better solution?
