Stands or lift?
« on: September 16, 2008, 07:53:09 PM »

Guys, I need to take my forks out over winter and replace one of them and do the seals etc. So I was looking at stands or lifts as my paddock stand is the standard one that goes on the brake caliper mounting brackets.

Busters have one for sale.. http://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/productInfo.aspx?catRef=TRE4101

or

an Abba headstock stand.

What do you guys have or recommend?

stop it at once, i`ll hunt you down if you spend any money with busters.

my simple steps to removing your forks

1. place your bike on a rear paddock stand
2. remove lower fairing (belly pan)
3.find a small block of wood approx 8" long
4.place your wood on top of a car jack
5.place the jack as far forwards as poss under the exhaust
6.start jacking

i use this method

mmmmmm...... both sound dodgy to me. if the roof of my shed would take the weight I could borrow a hoist from work, but it won't.

that looks cool but a bit out of my budget, I have to spray panels as well as replace one fork stanchion. And still try to buy some new bits for the bike.

Yeah it is a tad expensive. I got it 'free' with a bike I bought a few years ago...
