as a few of you know my bikes in at the moment for a new paint job

trying to find a way of preventing stone chips 

checked on venture shield but feel its over priced for a relatively small kit

just wondered if any1's aware of a more econimical alternative

thanx guys

I doubt it would be cheap, easy or practical but you could try that polyeurathane coating they put on dance floors that they claim it takes a diamond to scratch, could be handy in an off too

Motografix in Doncaster do the number boards for the front of the bike

I know a lot of people use them to prevent or even hide stone chips.

go toa craft shop and get some clear plasic on a roll for a couple of quid.it does the same job.

Not quite, the venture shield film goes on virtually invisible if fitted correctly and can be removed and refitted as many times as you like.

Sticky back plastic is a pain in the arse to fit as it does not conform around complex curved shapes like ventureshield does. It also has a tendency to leave highly visible air bubbles which are very difficult to get rid of. Sticky back plastic cannot be reused and will leave a horrible sticky residue behind when removed.

Cheap, yes

As good as, not even close.

Does anybody have a link to a video of Venture shield being applied? I've got to do mine in a couple of weeks. Should I wax the bodywork first to make sure it is clean? Thanks

Always stay in front! Let your mates get the chips. Look forward to seeing the pics of the paintjob. If its not done yet, you could always ask them to put some plasticiser in the lacquer. It wont stop chips completely but will minimise it. Alot of car manufacturers do this now. Ever noticed how a resprayed bonnet seems to chip easier than original paint.
