If everyone was as amazing on a bike as we all obviously are then it wouldnt be a problem, but there are assholes out there that think they are rossi and dont have an f'in clue.  Bit like the speed limit being 70 to cater for bastards in ancient cars that have no real breaks and are unsafe to drive even at 70 but because they are  "classic vehicles" they dont have to be safe

Had this discussion with a traffic plod biker a while ago.

His take on it is that by hanging off in order to get ones knee down you're in a very focused & committed position, which is fine on track when there's only one objective, but on the road when Rodney Reason then pulls blindly out in front of you & onto the roundybout in his Volvo estate you're in a far worse position, both from a peripheral vision viewpoint & taking avoiding action ie changing direction suddenly.

  I believe this statement is smack on !

The worst kind of copper to get pulled by are ex-police bikers, got pulled by one for breaking too hard, aparently my forks dived, I thoughts thats what they were for but apparently this guy knew better.  He gave me a bollocking and sent me on my way, what a dick

Why would they? I expect they have scraped up enough knee down heroes from road accidents in their time

knee down is great fun, and I love doing it, but have to agree it is completely pointless on the road, and it does restrict your periferal vision. Also a lot of people have to concentrate so hard on getting their knee down, they don't have any capacity left for general road awareness. I have a couple of very nice quiet hardly used places where I go to get my fix, and if a see a car approaching before I tip in, I abort and wait for a clear run.

As you point out bladeblaster peoples ability to knee down does vary greatly, but from a coppers point of view he can,t make a snap judgment on someones personal kneedown prowess, whether it be Valentino Rossi, or little old me, if they see ya kneedown on your local roundabout, your gonna get tugged. ( i have to hold my hand up to being a kneedown crasher! )

yep yer asking to get pulled and rightly so, as much as we would like it to be the road isn't a playground. I am also a knee down crasher, in the early days. Like I say I now stick to a couple of very quiet places I know well, and always, always always do some sighting laps. If I get knicked I get nicked, it will be a fair cop.
