Hi,ive just bought a zx6r for use as my trackbike, :hello2: problem is its got a rattle.Its very noticable at idle from cold but gets better as it gets warmer,however it stays rattly when on the revs warm or cold.My first thought was cam chain tensioner,but i stripped that and its working fine.
Any suggestions.?

What year is bike?? Could be cam/followers...They used to run a bit dry on first start up on the right side after being on the side stand(oil runs away from that end). Useless Kwack choke= too high revs from cold eventually knocking out the cam and followers that end of the engine.....  :-(

depending on the year the chain tensioner`s were modified(you could still have the old type), but the zx6rs have always had rattley engines upto the c model.

Mine's an F3 ('97) and it has always had a rattle when cold....

you say that the tensioner is working fine so is the chain worn and needs replacing then ?  :icon_scratch:

not sure chain and cogs look ok to my untrained eye.May have to bite bullet and get it booked in with someone.

how do you know the tensioner is working ok?
on the f & g models the tensioner s were made of chocolate and kawasaki modified them later on.

What area do you live?

i took the tensioner out and it seemed free and not jammed so presume its working ok.Im in bilston near wolvo.

Chains all look great, until you take them out and either lay it next to a new one or measure it.

never mind your miles away from me.
the tensioner will look good and appear to work when its out as it not under pressure.
