GSXR1000 K4 Clutch Problem!!
« on: August 12, 2008, 12:55:16 PM »

A friend of mine has just brought a GSXR1000 K4, it has only done 5k miles, anyway he took the bike out last night for its first proper ride and after about 10 mins the clutch starts slipping and eventually the bike was unridable.

My thoughts were the previous owner was a wheelie adict and has fried the clutch ?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated as my friend has not had the best of luck this year with bikes  :dontknow:

The clutch started slipping on my 636 when I overfilled the oil.  Not sure it's much help though.  :icon_scratch:

This may seam like a silyl suggestion but on my k3 gixxer when i over-filled the oil the clutch began to slip, i removed all the oil and did a filter change and all worked perfectly again, i do not know why this is, i just know it was a cause/effect thing and it worked. Also i never refilled the oil for a couple of days to let everything drip off

edit - i didnt notice 24-racebike had already mentioned the oil, but at least i know i am not crazy(well not much)

oops, didnt read that far up either so sorry clearly majickwak also has both the knowledge to know it could be oil and the stupidity to overfill it :) (tho noth the stupidity to post the same piece of advise for a third time :))

That's not quite true Liam....

I've been running GSXR's for the last 11 years in one form or another and it depends how you look after them and service them.

I have to say from my experiences Suzuki clutches are bloody good, Yamaha's are crap for sure.  It's th first I've heard of a Suzuki clutch problem so maybe the oil is overfilled like the others have said, is it ?

It's real east to change the friction plates but if you do I's leave them to soak in oil ovenight before fitting them  else you could fry them straight away  :icon_thumright:

As I said before Liam you are wrong about Suzuki clutches...Yamaha clutches are weak (as Andy said above)
